How much would you pay for this Salvaged SH?

Salvage title, "supposed" 20,000 mi 1998, orig CCT, orig R/R. Wrecked on the left side, scratched plastic, Dented tank (handle bar hit the tank). The good - looks like scratched 2 Bros exhaust, maybe a rear hugger - not sure and current owner claims new tires but he doesnt know what brand (riiight!).

I want the body work so I change my bike to grey / red CBR wheels ("Senna" Ducati style) but I dont want a Ducati and my body work is perfect.

Says he is firm on $1750, I was thinking $800-$1000 - what are your thoughts?

The bike is over an hour away so I had the current owner send me pics to save the trip.

Your feedback is greatly appreciate. Uploading pics....sorry this is the only one that would upload. Anyone know how to resize a jpeg? (I'm no good at this stuff).

I think a grand is low, but $1750 seems high for a wrecked bike.

I'd meet him in the middle around $1200-1300

Would you keep the parts for spares, or part it out? Parting a bike is a pain in the ***. Dealing with lowballers, and having oddballed parts left over kinda sucks.

I'd keep everything for spares. I just tired to up load the most important pic (lift side) and it still wont upload (dammit!). He is firm firm on the $1750 - I think its completely unrealistic. If it had a clear title, maybe, but a junk title is a junk title (as far as resale is concerned).

I picked up a 2001 VTR last winter, rashed on both sides, clean title. The headlight was cracked and had water in it. 18,000 miles on the clock. poorly fabbed single sided exhaust, and JB weld holding the clutch cover together.

That thing was a grand.

My clean title, decent shape '98 was $2 grand 2 years ago.

If he's "Firm" on that price, I'd say forget it. Another one will come along.

My thoughts exactly - thanks Matt. He seems like a nice kid so I'm going to wait a week or so to see what kind of replys I get from the forum and share this link with him just to shed alittle light on the subject. I think he is just misinformed is all.

Tebs, you want to dump that kind of money to buy a trashed bike to keep only as a second bike for parts? Like park it in the front lawn and wait for your bike to need parts? If thats the plan its not a good one.

1700 is way to much to pay someone for a huge liability and headache, which is what you would be doing.

Good, cuz the front lawn idea stunk. Plus you can buy and entire set of chinese bodywork for cheap on ebay and the nieghbors wont hate you. (well, not for the lawnbike anyway)

Late to the party.....

But from this side of the laptop.... the bike you describe is priced too high.. something to the left of $900 is more like it.. and personally, I'd pay no more then $700 or so.

Seems like you've found your answers...but like you said, if it had the title it's not a horrible deal..but without it $800-$1000 would seem fair.

a few years back I paid $850 for a 1998 with 20k that had a salvage title with no motor. I bought it just for the nice red tank after I had dented mine. Ended up selling the nice tank and the good bodywork pieces and made my money back, and I think I've made some profit since then selling random parts on here when someone posts parts they need that I have.

not worth that price without clear title. as for spare parts they aren't that hard to get (yet) . And as stated before chinese parts work (as I have them custom painted on mine) and all plastic only cost me apx $500. new. bought tank off fleabay about $80. JMO

Tebs, Reading thru the thread, I have purchased three wreck/ basketcase Superhawks for less than $1000.00 total... 2 of the three, had less than 15k on the original engines/ and clean title work(NOT reported to insurance).
If you will spend $1500.00- $2000.00 on a bike with a salvage title.. Save the $500.00 more.. And buy a Superhawk, with a straight title....

Your opinions are much appreciated - looks like I'm headed for the Chinese made plastic bits and will have to find a tank on ebay as well. I just wanted the current owner to know I wasn't trying to take advantage is all. Seems like a nice guy and all but I'm not here to pay for other's problems.
