high rpm engine reliability?

high rpm engine reliability?
im wondering how these motors enjoy life at constant high rpms? say screaming down the hiway at 8 or 9000 rpm for a period of time. are these things strong enough to take it or is it not advised to have them up there for too long?

a few were raced for a while...I'll bet every single one of them had manual CCT's... I've had mine at full throttle 5th and 6th gear for over 12 seconds at least 12 times... no worries. Under load is not when the auto CCT usually fails, fwir, it's after a high RPM chop, mostly...

gotcha. i find weve been doing alot of 100 mph driving and the odd time we get up a little higher so i wanted ot make sure this thing wasnt gonna come apart on me if we were doing any kind of high speed runs of any kind. i think manual cct's are on my winter list.

Did a trip once and had to cut it short and basicly hightail it for home family emergency... I did roughly 4,5 hours of straight highway...
Basicly fill er up get on the road and hit 6'th and hold it there until the RLOD came on... Get off, pee, fill up and go again... If you discount the on and off ramps I where never below 100 mph on that part of the trip... Most of it was spent in the 130-140 mph range...
The hawk didn't mind much... I was more than a little stiff when I got of though... And we aren't even going to discuss the fuel economy... But I did cover the miles fast...

My bike with stock gearing redlines (9500 rpm) at 70 mph in 1st gear. So unless you're planning on outrunning cops to the state line, if you're running 8k to 9k for long periods you must be riding in 1st or 2nd (95 mph at 9500 rpm) gear.
But seriously, when I ride my favorite canyon I keep it at 5000 rpm or better for good punch out of the corners, usually in 3rd gear. It feels like it could run there all day. But with all the torque available, I rarely feel the need to go above 7k before shifting.

hmm maybe mines been regeared, mine hits top of first at 60 mphin first and second is the same as yours. then again who knows my motos been changed so maybe its out of a year that had a slightly different first. i keep it over 5000 through the twisties too, shes got more than enough go from that rpm someitmes ill run out a gear and hang around 7000 through a set of turns. avoiding a upshift more than anything i guess. although i find mine really starts to come to life around or just after 7000.
