High mounts and pillion riders?

While I won't be spending the cash soon as I am saving for a trip to Europe this year, I am curious about one thing.

I often find myself giving rides on my superhawk, it is a great mount for this service, however I have had a couple of girls burn themselves on the stock exhaust. (it has become my main warning to passengers)

How do high mount exhausts change the passenger/burn equation? Is it more or less of a problem?

Thanks everyone.

Unless you like grilled thighs (which you may) then lo is the way to go.

Though I have to say, a buddy had a Two Brothers carbon fibre exhaust & that thing was touchable, even when the bike was running.

(So now even I'm confused!)

Ah, good to know. So I will stay with low mounts when/if I upgrade.

Aftermarket exhaust runs a lot cooler. My Yoshi cans (low-mounts) are 'touchable.'
If you want the cans, get 'em and just tell your passengers to wear jeans.

Carbon or ti cans are touchable, though the midpipes still aren't. Stainless and aluminum get extremely hot. But why are they burning themselves? If my opinion is worth anything, and I'm sure it's shared by others here, that means they're not dressed/geared properly and honestly don't belong on the bike to begin with.

My old carbon cans were "grab-able" while hot. Now my high mount titanium devils are touchable, but still won't burn you. Stock stainless gets HOT.

I make sure they wear jeans and I give them one of my jackets and a helmet to wear. While the jacket is big on them it is better than nothing, but I don't have anything even close to fit them when it comes to pants.

However both of them burned themselves just above the ankle, when their jeans are pulled up and above the top of their shoe. One was wearing short socks so it was a direct burn, the other burned though a cotton sock. In both cases it was when getting off the bike. One girl, 28yrs old, is barely 5ft tall (if that) and I started parking next to a curb after that so she could dismount easier. The other it was just carelessness.

Well that's good to hear at least that you make an effort when it comes to gear. Alot of girls will bitch about wearing all that stuff so use the hot pipes as an excuse to make them wear boots and long pants. I just cringe when I see so many guys riding around with shorts and flipflops and their girls wearing even less...The stock pipes do become about the hottest things known to man so when you're able to a pair of aftermarket mufflers in carbon or ti will really make a big difference. As far as the gear goes a few bucks can go a LONG way when $hit happens.
