HELP!! leaving for 9hr trip tomorrow am- hawk wont run!

I am leaving tomorrow morning for a 9.5 hr road trip with a bunch of friends.

I got my new tires on yesterday, bike was running great. The air filter was beat up so I figured before I left I would just replace that too.

I took off the tank, changed the air filter, put the tank back on. Wouldn't start. Then I realized I didn't turn the fuel back on after cranking it for a minute or two. Turned fuel on, bike started, let bike warm up.

BUT it was running like ****. Would kind of rev up, but just not right. It was okay...not right though. Took it down the road and it died. Started it, drove it back.

Now it was just running bad...Really will just sputter, die, back fire when you give it much gas.

I have been looking foreward to this road trip for 6 months, I'm leaving in 9 hours. can anyone help? It seems like a fuel issue- hose relocation??- they all seem fine.....

just did a search- maybe a "PVLIR".....wouldn't put it past me. My bike is at a storage unit so I am headed back up there to examine the petcock and make sure I didn't FFFF that up. wish me luck! In the meantime, any suggestions are still apreciated.

I would check the vacuum line on the petcock. Make sure its on the back port facing sideways and not the port facing down...

That is my guess. Happened to me once. I rode a few miles and then it would want to die out. I could nail it and it would eventually clean out but a few miles later it started to die again.

Hopefully he fixed it and took it for a test ride that turned into another 150 miles like mine usually do.

You too huh? "Going to take the bike for a spin and make sure the license plate bolts I replaced are good. See you in a few hours."

My significant other has stopped worrying when my "test-ride-around-the-block" takes three hours, she just calls me when dinner is ready...
