Hawk eating batteries v.need some advice
so i've been through 2 brand new batteries now...voltage regulator checks out good .3 ohms across the board, same for the alternator...however i'm only charging at 12.4v @ 3000rpm...is it safe to assume i should replace the alternator stator?

Check the output at 5000rpm, it should be in the 14v range. Also check the battery cables for any corrosion and make sure they are all tight. You can find the service manual on the site if you don't have access to one, it may help you go through the troubleshooting process.

I had the same conditino on the VFR 4 years ago.
Went thru 2 batteries.
Replaced the R/R and lost another battery.
Opened up the case to the Stator and saw 2/rds of the windings black and not a light brown. replaced the Stator and Bang 14.8 v constant.
The R/R was still good and the old batteries were also fine.

is a guide I used to determine what is happening

and i've already been through two brand new batteries, so i'm pretty sure the battery isn't the problem

Keep the batteries and hrow them on a good charger (not trickle charger). They should come back.
