had my first track day :D
it went great. ive never been to the track. got both knees down, the right puck is completely worn down, left made a little contact so i swapped them half way through as i was out of damn puck early on, lol. but i got my right knee down 3rd lap of the first session. the bike did great, held her own and was a beast on the track ill get some pics of it in track mode and some pics of my riding when my friends share them

Nice vid! First track days are so much fun. That was a lot of knee draggin you where doin there, especially for your first. Your form looked good, but it looked like you were a little concerned with stickin that knee out and less concerned with your body position. Just my opinion, which means nothing. Im not so sure about the blue suit on the yellow bike though lol
#5
Lol thanks man. I had to get the knew out I was dragging toe slide and peg in some corners. Figured the knee being out a little further was safer :-)
The blue was cheap so I bought it. Half price cheap. And I'm cheap. Lol

yeah man i loved it. i tried to convince the fiance to not get married next year and instead to let me get a track bike, she said to just go ahead and move out. looks like i might be getting a track bike sooner than i thought, lol.
getting the shoulders off will come with time. towards the end of the day i was getting down on every corner and was starting to get the hang of leaning my shoulders off aswell. i also found i was getting more comfortable and only letting half my *** get off the seat and tucking my knee in towards the bike more, which is likely why i was touching toe and peg. ill do the poor mans rear set mod and then work some more on body positioning at the next day. and man its addictive no doubt there
a shot of me mid day.
i was happy to have been able to get a knee down on my third lap of the first session. its something else thats for sure, i love it

Nice pics and it sounds like you had a ball at your first event. Now that the excitement is out of the way, start thinking less about dragging your knee and more about form. I'll bet you still have a grin from ear to ear, huh?
Oh, and I hope you find another place to live. LOL

form will come next, i wanted to get comfortable with my knee touching the ground first and now that i can slap the right knee down on command ill work on proper form. so thatll be on the next track day.
i told my fiance i want to put off our wedding for another year so i can buy a track bike, she told me to move out, so i guess im getting a track bike, lol.
i find im one of those guys who picks up on things pretty quick. i got on this bike never having been on a real bike before and got the jist of things very fast, within the first 2 months i was hanging off the seat pretty far, its been just over a year since i bought it and about 7500 km of riding and ive got a knee down, been ready to put it down for the last couple months just havent been able to on the street for fear of crashing. and on the third lap of the first session, after 2 warm up laps i finally touched my right knee. went from getting passed by everyone to doing alot of passing and chasing guys through the corners by the end of the day. i think im getting the hand of it. hopefully i get the form right and get better at left hand turns and ill be all set. this sure as hell wont be a cheap hobby, like i needed another one, lol.
on a sad note we had 2 crashes that day, one was a fella named mike, 09 daytona 675, track only bike, he came down the front straight into turn one too hot and crashed. we arent sure why, im thinking its because he put the 1/4 twist throttle on the bike and wasnt used to it, maybe grabbed too much throttle in the corner and low sided. regardless they had to recover his bike from the bottom of a hill 50 feet off the track, maybe even further than that. bike is finished, slider snapped a chunk of frame off, tank is dented bad, all the fairings are broken, rear set is broken. its pretty much turned into a paper weight. mike was out for a little while, they had to cut off his dainese 1 piece aswell to get him on the stretcher. came back mid day a little out of it but luckily he wasnt too hurt.
and my buddy i went with crashed around 1 pm on his 2010 daytona 675. just wasnt a triumph kind of day. he was chasing me for a lap, we had a bike get between us, and he had a low side on a corner that both of us had carried much more speed through that day. he ripped his spyke 1 piece on the arm and the bike made out good. fork slider took some damage, broke the right clip on, right rear set broke, ripped the race tail off, but that was really about it. the sliders did their job, the frame came out with no damage, hes a little sore, but all in all it was a good crash where not too much broke, and i have pictures and video of the crash to share

novice group, and racer 5 hosted it. instructors were great, they rode around and gave us pointers. the one guy had me follow him early on to get my lines sorted out and gave me some body position pointers aswell. and they were available through out the day so if you needed some help theyd take you on the track and show you how to ride it and all that good stuff. my buddy with the white 675 was novice but should have been intermediate, but because of the small groups they only had novice and advanced groups running, and the other 675 that crashed was advanced group

thanks i was determined to put it down. figured if i cant get a knee down ill get a knee down followed by shoulder and then helmet. lol.
it was a great time. im gonna have to buy a track bike so one of my quads is going up for sale as soon as my part comes in for it

Why not just prep the SH like you did this time out? I've found that prepping it 4 or 5 times a year is more cost effective. I'd like to have a track bike, but given the number of times a year I go, I just can't justify it.....even with the cost of fixing parts every time I go down.
#16
realistically after my bar end mirrors come in itll be a 5 minute tape up job to get her ready. i just couldnt bare to watch her go down and damage something after seeing my buddys 675 go down. hes in about a grand in parts right now and without a bike for the street while he gets them. id rather have a track bike go down and fix it when money is available than to have my street bike out of commission for months or even a year while i try to buy parts for it, or god forbid i break the frame and then im really sol. and after seeing a friend of mine who was rear ended at the sunday event and how mangled his track bike was it makes me want a track bike even more. because no matter how careful we are **** still happens. plus im greedy and wanna say ive got a track bike and a street bike, lol

Good job man, you're looking awesome out there for your first trackday. Knee draggin your first time out is a real testament to how good of a bike the VTR is. Sucks to see your buddy crashed, but he'll be better for it. If anyone needs a trackbike it's him. Man I'd be a nervous wreck riding a beautiful new bike like that at a trackday, plus it's so much fun to flog the pee out of a cheap beater-bike.

thanks guys. im glad i didnt look like a complete noob my first time out
addicted, hell yes, id go every weekend if i could, lol.
the vtr did awsome at the track, i love being able to come out of a corner at 5000 rpm and roll on the throttle and just have it pick up and go and not have to scream her all the time like the little 600 guys do.
thats his second down with that bike, last time he had a low side on the grass on the left side, bent the shifter but that was about it, this one was much more impressive, lol.
track bike is in my future, ideally id like to find another vtr for the track but at the same time a 750 would be perfect because of its mix of high rpm goodness and mid range power. see what i can find when im ready to buy
you know the worst part of our track day, there was an 11 year old kid on a 127 whp 600 cc honda. kids been racing for like 5 years now. full out race bike with traction control and all that ****. walking all over us. kid was fast. i think its mainly because at 11 years old they havent learned proper fear yet, lol

Yeah, them young kids are killers on the ego, huh? I've done some STT days when Jake Lewis was there. He's a cousin or nephew or something of the Hayden brothers. check out the race results for his 2010 season so far. If I'm correct, he's 14.

You think a teenage boy is bad? Try a teenage girl!
Last trackday I did, I got embarrased by a 14 year old girl on a 250... She had a hard time keeping up on the straights, but every time I touched the brakes she went by fast enough to make my head spin... Most of the time she barely even touched the brake, just let off the gas for a second and tipped it in... And considering her 100 odd pounds vs my 210, she was still flat out when I reached my breaking point...
And if that wasn't bad enough, after a short break, she swapped to a 600, and kept railing past us old geezers in the corners... I started out 11 out of 12, lapped two and went past the rest... She started 12'th and lapped me twice in 20 or so laps...

man when i was young we were into bmxing and without thinking id jump that sucker off the biggest ramps i could find. now im careful getting out of the bathtub because i know what could happen, lol.
tweety you should have pulled off and faked a geezer injury, some kind of cramp or something that will go away around the same time she gets off the track. that would have been my strategy anyway

Actually, I had fun battling with her on a lot of corners... We where about even on top speed, me on the VTR and her on a short geared 600... But oh boy, did she carry cornerspeed, on both bikes...
Fact is, we should both probably have been in the intermidiate group, but it was full when I entered, and she wasn't allowed because of her age... Silly rule if you ask me... But we had fun... (she didn't lap me all of the sessions, only when she managed to get away the last session... Old geezers gets tired at the end of the day you know...)
Oh, and she did have one flaw... She was to short to put more than one leg on the ground on the 600 at the time, and it had no kickstand and was a bit heavy for her to walk around... And since her father was in the next session, rolling out when we rolled of track, she needed someone to catch her and help put it on the stand... Since I was in the next place over in the pit, and in the same group, I voluntered... I guess it looked a bit odd to say the least... Every time we came off track, I parked my bike while she kept circling, waiting for me to be ready to catch her...

danny, yup cayuga, im gonna review my other videos and see if theres anything worth posting on them
tweety, thats like this 11 year old kid, he'd get one foot down and the other was off the pegs, he had his dad catch him half the time too.
damn little kids, ill be 30 in a couple weeks and i felt that track day on the drive home. felt like id been kicked in the legs and nuts for 7 hours, lol

nope it hasnt, i woke up with a smile on my face, went over to my pants, rubbed the pucks, smiled a little more. and ive been looking at on/off ramps and wondering what kind of speeds id need to get my knee down on them, lol. im likely to crash in the next week or so.
the nice thing is that a good hard track day took the aggressive rider out of me for atleast a week or so. i havent had the urge to really blast a corner that hard as i got my fix on saturday. im sure by tomorrow thatll change.
now to find another set of pucks as id like to get out again in a month or so, lol

I know what you mean..... for the last few years, if you did a track day in my area you had a good chance of running into this young lady:
http://www.teamhammer.com/team/bios/myers/
She did embarrass many folks who thought they were fast.....
It was good to she win at Infineon this this year but the biggest news was this:

i believe that under 16 and any females shouldnt compete with the men. why? not cause im sexist, cause i enjoy looking at 18+ girl butts in tight leather. but i dont wanna loose to those girls. hurts my already small ego.

There's no doubt that kids and teenagers learn easier, but I really believe that starting on something small and forgiving like a 125 or 250 track bike helps learn the fundamentals of riding fast. Even with a SV650 there's still enough weight to get you in trouble, but those damn 250's you can lay em on their ear and it's no big deal. It's all about the amount of weight on the bike's contact patch.
