One hates to make generalizations but there does seem to be a certain frequently seen Gixxer mentality. Loud pipe, check. Gixxer leather jacket with requisite patches, check. Jeans and sneakers, check. Girlfriend similarly attired with lower back tattoo showing, check. Smoky burnouts, check. Stoplight-to-stoplight wheelie monster, check. Rear tire worn down to the wear indicators in the middle, brand new on the sides, check.
There's about a zillion ways to be headbanger on a bike. My Duke would be easily outrun (not beaten, but destroyed) by any current fast car in a straight line, but show me a tight backroad where horsepower isn't an issue and it's just not catchable. No chicken strips on my Pilot Powers I can assure you. On the other hand, nobody ever bought a Hawk for straight line or, for that matter, twistie supremacy. In my admittedly brief experience, it's actually a lot more subtle than that, and perhaps one of the most un-Japanese Japanese bikes that's ever been made.
As the saying goes, Americans shop for horsepower, but they buy torque. At least, this one does.

Does he want to race you or your bike? +1 to the comment about the guy being a danger. Better riders than you have been killed by the mistakes of their riding partners.
I read a post on another message board this season about a guy who got killed when a newbie-rider person he was riding with clipped his wheel and sent them both into a wreck (the newbie rider survived).
Take it to the track, or buy a copy of Tourist Trophy for PS2/Xbox 360!
