Re: frame sliders??
22, you are correct....My buddy I bought the bike from is in AL he was paying $350 yr full coverage....Bring the same bike to TX....Bam to the moon., I have an excellent driving record, a truck, a car, and 2 bikes on my policy.....The area we live in is crazy.....That is why I pay $127 for liability only.....

I can get full coverage insurance for $600Australian but insurance companys wont cover trackday accidents in Australia and even if you have a small lowside on the road without and any other veichles involved have it repaired your next insurance payment will double and your excess will be over $1000

I looked into it and havent put it out of my mind yet I can get 55 or 60mm nylon rod lengths for about $30 and would like to add a little lenght to the units I have to protect a little more the only problem I have is I have heard about different nylons having different friction rateings and they dont slow the bike instead they skim off the ground and the bike keeps on going (obviously not for ever) without slowing much dont know how true it is still going to look into it ,dont know if it even makes a real difference

i unfortunately just used mine about an hour ago, and i've got to say, while they did save the poor fellow some bad rash, they didn't slow it down. in the least. i watched my bike spin and slide its way across the road, and when it hit the curb (20-30 meters away)it was still going pretty quick. and i was only doing about 50 km/h when i low sided. wet road/grease/cold tires. what a combination. but i'd say they did an ok job. softer compound may well help slow it down, though.

Sorry to hear about your get off twitcher but at least your ok. Any way the framesliders aren't meant to slow it down actually the oppisite they're made to keep the bike sliding and not grab anything. If it grabs then it's likely to flip end over end which would be much worse for the bike. Just be happy you and the bike made it through pretty much unharmed. Lucky, Lucky!

Twitcher, glad your Alright!!

You'll get some slowing as a result of friction but like I said they want to keep it to a minimum so it doesn't toss it. That would be a tough assignment, one that would have to be well compensated to the test rider. I'm pretty straped for cash... if you've got the donor bike.

May find out on my own Monday...but I hope not.
I was wondering how protect the engine cases.
I guess when you slide out with frame sliders the stuff that gets scratched up is:
Cans
Connector pipes
maybe the tail fairing
Maybe the side fairings
bar ends
brake/ clutch levers
turn signals
mirrors
clutch and/or stator side engine cases
pegs - shifter/brake levers too
I'm thinking for track days it might be a good idea to have some old rashed cans, pipes, tail fairing, side fairings (or maybe a sharkskinz race fairing) and some case covers.
Just don't know where to get case covers.
I've seen billet cases with sliders on some race bikes but don't think they make them for the VTR.
I did find a new SharkskinzRace fairing for $287
Now If I could find some $4 Krylon rattle can paint in just the right shade of blue.....

My buddy lowsided his gsxr on the track semi-low speed and his cases were fine. Rashed lower fairing, midpipe, can bent brake lever. Where did you find the shakskinz for that price, got any more?

Re: frame sliders??
LMAO.....No, you misunderstand.....what I ment to say was, we have all of the appropriete personel for the this particular test....other volenteers will be evaluated and assigned as the project progresses....so you see, in it's simplest form, what I am saying is "YOU DA MAN"!! lol....
on a side note, got the e-mail concerning shipping of the tires....Thanks!!

Cans = yes

turn signals + i have flush mounts so no

Re: frame sliders??
I've low sided 3 times with no sliders. Here's what got damaged:
Shifter
Brake pedal
bar ends
levers
flush mounts
mirrors
mid-pipes
mufflers
rear cowl
side fairings
case cover (not stator)
Considering what happened, the bike held up really well. I believe if I had sliders on that might protect the exhaust, fairing and engine.
