frame sliders??
did a search and it isn't bringing up much of anything... what sliders are people using? it's on my wish list of stuff to get.... I remember seeing a thread a thought on them here ....

There used to be a post on here but I can't find it anywhere. Anyway, LSL make nice ones and keep your eyes on ebay there are usually 2 different companys on there. I know there's one other company that a lot of guys on here use but can't remeber the name. I made mine from CBR1000rr and R1 sliders but I had to modify the mounts. You need really long sliders to clear the fairing and the two no cut mounts have different length spacers.

Unfortunately, we own a bike that not alot of aftermarket companys cater to. Because of that unless you go the route I took you won't find cheap sliders. Most will charge about $110 for them, I paid 40 but you have to figure in the labor of modding them.

I dunno I like these: http://www.swsliders.com/index.htm
and can you send a link to the lsl ones you got??

Those are the LSL sliders...apparently, judging by the pic of the "laid down" gixxer.....they're pretty damn good....
I just think, they look funny...."What's that mushroom thing sticking out for?"

The "mushroom" is your plastics savior. That's the replaceable slider, I know it's a little funky that's why I made my own. Didn't feel like paying $110 for something everybody else gets for $50.

Re: frame sliders??
Those LSL ones look a little too shallow i want something that sticks out a little further...what are the options for a VTR other than the little mushroom ones...i have Xmas dinero i want to spend! hehe

After all of that I think if I had to do it all again I would go to an accessory shop that carries a lot of different sliders and look for ones that have basses that have two different length mounts and long sliders. I'll try to get some pics of exactly what I mean.

Re: frame sliders??
I have LSL's and I like them. I have not had to use them yet and I hope I never do. They are a high quality piece and I'm sure they would fair just fine in an incident.
I get lots of looks from ppl. that see them on the Hawk. They are exotic I gess.
Anyway, here is a pic of mine

Well.. since I really don't have any friends :P I have never laid the bike over. Although the bike has been knocked over on it's side by an idiot in a SUV and they do protect the fairings in a tip over.
There is more protection on the left side for the case than there is on the right side. The clutch cover is kinda portly.
The good thing about these pads is the fact that they will not grind down or snap off like alot of the plastic sliders being made. I have seen quite a few crashes at the track where the sliders melt all the way to the fairing or they just broke.
So, the whole slider debate goes on. IMO sliders are a 50/50 proposition when on the streets. They can have a helping effect by allowing you to get your legs out from underneath the bike cleaner in a lay over. Although they can cause your bike to tumble or flip while in a slide if they hook something in the road causing much more damage than just a slide.
They are great for tip overs and "oh ****" situations.
Anyway.. at least they are great conversation piece

if I didnt have the slider I would have been up for complete fairing on 1 side and possibly engine case, radiator, clip on ,footpeg ,nose and headlight as I had seen a mate do almost the exact same thing as me and cost him heaps and had the trailer home as it was I picked it up rode home.
I know peolpe 6'1, 6'2 that have them with out a problem

Re: frame sliders??
true... I've seen bikes that've been low sided with no scuffing like that at all though... where'd you get them? as some are better then none... and most I've seen are at least $100
