Fox Shock on ebay
Someone should snagg this, seller is asking $275. Were it not for the Ohlins that I just bought - this would be mine already. JB

Don't be sorry. You scored! That's less than I paid for my Interceptor's Twin Clicker in 1984.
And for a little perspective, in 1984 you could buy any full system exhaust (Kerker, Vance and Hines, anything) for any bike you owned for under $300 USD.

I should get it next week and it"ll be installed that weekend....but that is a Formula 1 weekend so I shouldn't speak too soon. Either way, I've been waiting for a deal like this to come along...I'm just hoping it's not too worn out where a rebuild is in order.

Fox springs typically have the spring rate in pounds/inch (and spring length in inches - Fox use 6" on their VTR shock) marked on their springs, i.e. 6x850, 6x900, 6x950, 6x1000.
You can get different rate springs for your Fox from a variety of suspension specialists. The spring is incredibly easy to change on a Fox and can be done by just about anyone with regular tools in minutes.
I personally was not happy with how the Fox for my VTR performed as delivered by Fox (rebound damping was inadequate and I could not get it to work properly regardless of number of clicks selected). I have had Fox Shox on other bikes over the years and those worked wonderful but not the VTR one for some reason. I eventually had it revalved by Max McAllister @ Traxxion Dynamics (he says there is a flaw in the rebound damping circuit as provided by Fox) based on the proper spring rate for my weight and I am EXTREMELY happy with the performance of it now and have over 60,000 km (40,000 miles) on it. Other than freshening up the shock oil a couple of times it has been maintenance- and trouble-free.
While talking to Max (nice guy!) about my Fox, we also talked about my Race Tech equipped forks too and he pointed out that my Race Tech original-version Gold Valves had too large ports and thus flowed too much oil -> he suggested pre-loading the compression valving shim stack....interesting because (a) Race Tech had used my bike for a guinea pig for testing this and, unbeknown to Max, my Gold Valves were ALREADY pre-loaded - I had tried both non-pre-loaded and pre-loaded Gold Valves and much preferred the feel of the pre-loaded set-up (b) Race Tech eventually years later introduced a second-generation Gold Valve "G2-R" which utilizes the pre-loaded shim stack concept. Anyways, IMHO, Max knows his stuff!
Not saying that you won't be delighted with your Fox but IF for any reason you don't think it is performing as good as you anticipated maybe give Max or any other reputable suspension specialist a call.
Again, most importantly, make sure you use the correct spring rate.
Happy and safe riding!

I'm currently still on the stock shock with 28,000 miles on it. I'm just looking for a slightly more 'refined' ride at the back. Stock, the rear end just feels a bit 'dead' if that's the right word. I'm not expecting the bike to be completely transformed...actually, I don't know what to expect now that I think about it. I haven't been on a SH with anything other than a stock shock and the only other bike I've ridden in the past several years has been an R6 which really isn't a valid comparison with the SH. Since I've done the 900RR front end conversion already, I'm wondering what I could've spent $300 on that would improve the handling more than a decent rear shock would.....

Once you have done that, put some good F4i front brakes on...
Oops - I see from your sig that you have a 900rr front end - never mind.

Sorry, I won't be selling it...but you can have my stock shock after the Fox is on!! I might even cover the shipping. Speaking of selling stuff I do have some parts/gear sitting around taking up space....you've inspired me with your inquiry. Keep your eyes peeled for a new "For Sale" thread soon...

Ok, so you have a leaking seal, but think of it as a bit of a blessing. Suspension only works when set up properly for the rider, so now you can have that done for you by Jamie.
Then it will be all good.

The Ohlins that I bought had a leaking seal, not all that bad, I had Ohlins fix it up while they were putting a new spring on. The rebuild was $80, the shock is amazing. I agree with Shayne.
There is a Penske for sale for $900.
