Few Questions From a new owner

ok well I just got the Superhawk on Saturday Apr 8th and just have noticed a few things I would like to know the answers to.

First off its a '01 Superhawk 18000km Blue and from what i can tell completly stock aside from an alarm installed.

Now what I am wondering is under the seat there is two compartments one is rectangular about 6" long or so and the other is tubular and 9" long what are these for? I have the OEM toolkit but it dosnt exactly fit in either compartment. neither compartment has a lid nor should it, it just has the rubber bungee thing. also where is OEM toolkit supposed to go?

next thing is on the underside of the seat itself there is 3 L shaped hooks that look like they might have held something what was it or if there never was something there what are they for?

near the passenger pegs there is what looks like a quick release clip on both sides it looks like a quick release clip like for a seat in a mini van or something. or like the latch on a car door. what is it for?

are there any cargo hooks on this bike? i found two that flip out from under the seat(one one each side) but you kinda need four hooks to be useful.

also if there is a downloadable OEM manual for this bike can someone point out the link? iv got the service manual allready that someone posted.

and what is the purpose of the "positioning light" the one above the headlight?

oh and last question is the height of the pegs adjustable? I seem to be dragging the rear brake unless i turn my foot sideways away from it.

and so far I love the bike havnt done any rides longer than 30min but seems comfortable. i think I might get some handle bar raisers but other than that AWSOME bike.

I have allready done the poor-mans license plate holder mod the stock one was so ugly within 20min of owning it I cut it off with a dremel and then I came on here and saw alot of people did the same

Re: Few Questions From a new owner

I honestly don't know what was supposed to go in those two under seat compartments. I kinda place the tool bag in the middle and bungee it down. I find them useful for holding tank and airbox bolts when I remove those parts for carb work.

I use the L-hook for holding a spare helmet. I latch the helmet over the hook and put the seat on, and it works decently well.

As far as cargo hooks, I use the spools that stick out from the exhaust hangers, they don't seem to serve any other purpose.

Stock pegs are not adjustable, in fact, recently a few people have been wondering how to move them without buying all new rearsets. If you're draggin the rear brake, you are either doing some serious leaning, or your brake lever is badly out of position.

As far as the positioning light, and quickrelease latches, I don't have a clue, but there was a post about the light and no one really had a conclusive answer.

the L hook i was reffering to is not the one for a helmet but there is 3 of them on the underisde of the seat itself like built into the plastic they look spread apart enough to holkd a waterproof container or something.

The larger compartment is to hold the tool kit in place and the other one is for a "U" shaped bar lock. You can also see a little "V" to hold the bar in place.

Those "L" shaped plastic tabs hold the owners manual in its package in place.

The little light above the head light is a mystery but some think its for European regulations.

I assume by "dragging" your rear brake you mean that your foot is resting on it. If your wearing flat soled boots that shouldn't be a problem.

Well.. two of the hooks grab the rails on the subframe to hold the seat down, but I have a Corbin seat so I can't go out and check. I think we may be talking about two different things.

Re: Few Questions From a new owner

thank you NorrTH and Loco please read more carefully in the future I said PLASTIC hooks not metal and i guess you having a corbin would explain it since you havnt seen the underside of the seat in ages

is the corbin worth the cash? or on long trips should I just use a sheepskin cover type thing?

Re: Few Questions From a new owner

If, god forbid, I had to do a long trip on a stock Superhawk I would go for the sheep skin.

But I wouldn't go unless I had:

- a double bubble
- throttle locking device
- raised bars (superbike, VFR or Heli)
- one of those emergency gas containers that look like a tiny scuba tank

and depending on the mileage:
- an extra regulator rectifier
- manual CCT's

Re: Few Questions From a new owner

The small light above the headlight is a "parking" light. This is a Euro regulation that we also have in Australia. When a vehicle is parked beside the road at night temporarily it must have a light on. That is what this light is for.

I have taken my FIRESTORM on semi long trips without an issue, and it doesn't have any of those things.

is this your first bike?

you should ride with the ***** of your feet on the pegs, not with the sole or heel.

I guess it all depends on how much natural padding you bring. Mine is like bone on rock.

I pitty the fool who goes flying down the road on a SH (or any sport bike) sitting on a dead sheep. I don't care how good it feels.

Yes I'm a pansy and I have a Sargent seat. He said stock or sheep. I'll take a sheep over the brick.

Hey NOrrTH,

Your profile says you are in Nananimo. I live in WA but have been in BC a lot and I don't know where that is. So, where is it?

Ah. Yeah, I know where Nanaimo is, I just thought there may be another city with a similar name. Always lookin for new destinations. Last fall we stayed on a private island near Savary Island. Man it is nice up there.

Re: Few Questions From a new owner

Ya its on Vancouver Island, 26 miles accross the water from Vancouver and an hour and a half north of Victoria.

Its a paradise here for sportbikers. When we get bored we go to the interior of BC, Vernon, Penticton, Osoyus (spl?) and ride.
