Fairing + Buzzard + 70mph = Not Good
On my way to work this morning and a buzzard on the side of the road decides to jump and right in my path on a two lane road while I'm cruisin' along at 70. Carnage ensues. Fortunely didn't go down. Bird just went straight through the fairing and windshield and then hit me in the chest and a little in the helmet as I kind of ducked. Looking for a right side fairing and center fairing piece. And a tinted double bubble. And an instrument panel for a '98. All the gauges work but the housing exploded. Looks like I'm going to be doing some more painting.

No insurance. Liability is only $96 a year. I was hoping I would never need full coverage. The savings will just about come out even after buying parts. Think I am going to go with new OEM plastic on the right side and avoid the painting. When I painted the lower I got the paint to match so you can't even tell it's not factory, but it was time consuming and the paint was fairly expensive. By the time I find a right fairing to paint, fix it up so it can be painted and then paint it, I can have the new OEM on and riding it within a few dollars and months sooner.

Glad you're OK.
I clipped a deer last year on my VFR and stayed upright. Scared the crap out of me and knocked some actual crap out of the poor deer! He was bounding over the center median and was still airborne when I tagged his hindquarters. He spun into my right side after breaking off my front fender... and deer fur was stuck everywhere, including between the front tire and the rim!

When I think back about it, it seems like it happened in slow mo. I can see the bird coming up and right in front of me, and then turn so he is flying in the same direction I am traveling. I am thinking the bird will either turn or move upwards so I do not want to move and move into it, so I continue straight, straight into the bird. In the brief second or two that it happens, you forget that the bird is only traveling maybe 5 mph and I am moving at 70. If it had been a car or even a deer, something I see once in a while I could have anticipated it, but I have never had a buzzard move right in front of me on my bike and I just rode right into him. Plus at 6:30am you just aren't thinking about buzzards. Kind of glad I didn't try to swerve so that I hit him stright on and not at an angle or off center. The wingspan of that thing covered practically the whole lane. I never thought about moving into the other lane as it was just before cresting a hill and that could have been even worse. I have been driving/riding this road to work for over 6 years and the subconscious kicked in and made that decision for me.
