Drag Racing: clutch chattering problems
I know the superhawk isn't really a bike for drag racing, but i still think its fun to do it every once in a while for fun. I have noticed that when trying to launch the bike hard and slipping the clutch and all the clutch seems to chatter and engauge and disengauge very quickly making for a very freightning experience. I have read some reviews of people saying the bike did this but them having no idea why it happened. Does anybody know exactly why something like this happens, and if there is anyway to fix it? thanks
O, and if anybody is curious, it runs an 11.3 at 124 with a 230 lb rider and the stupid clutch problem.

That sounds like the steel plates are getting hot . Maybe the Hawks don't get much oil flowing over them for cooling effect ?
I'm running aftermarket Barnett Kevlar friction plates which " might help " and have not noticed any problems but I've seldom done drag starts . Only maybe three times ever while tuning .

Re: Drag Racing: clutch chattering problems
My Bandit 12S and through the years GPZ900R , FJ-1200 and more had hydraulic clutches w/o launch problems other than the norm of the steel plates getting hot .
You might try Barnetts HD Clutch springs and a braided clutch line first .
I sure like their Kevlar clutch plates I'm using in my VTR .Hint Hint
Superbikes like the GSXR , ZX-10 , ZX-12R ect ect use cable type clutch pulls to lower weight and it costs less per bike made times total bikes made for the corporate bean counters is my opinion .

Re: Drag Racing: clutch chattering problems
I have made quite a few 1/8 mile passes with my VTR and the clutch chatter is the only thing keeping the bike from launching and getting really good times. (7.49 @99.97 was my best). IIRC, there was some discussion a couple years back on the old mailing list about the cluctch and why it did that, but it wasn't a concern for me to pursue, so I forgot what it was all about.
