couple of pics of my superhawk

Here's a couple of pics of my superhawk. It has CBR954RR frontend and an RC51 SP2 swingarm w/ the 600RR hugger. Let me know what you think.

I love it!
This is what the SH should be.

Is the rear shock still the SH OEM?

Awesome machine What is the handling like? Ironically enough, I was looking at a RC swingarm on eBay this morning and wondering if it would fit, now I know (although how much modding went into making it fit is the question). Also, is it just me or does the wheelbase look longer as a result (ie. swingarm is longer)? I beleive the SP1 swingarm was a bit shorter (feel free to correct me anyone).

anyhow, kudos for your ingenuity

Nice looking SH what year is she ? Actually my 99 has 954RR forks on it also. I just thought it was kinda cool that someone else out there has also upgraded to inverted forks from a 954RR. I'll post a pic attachment of my 99 SH i just finished her a couple month's ago.

It's a 2000 superhawk built the way honda sould have in the first place. The SP2 swingarm doesn't just bolt on. To start with it is 3 inches longer than the vtr swingarm. I machined 3 inches off the pivot section and welded new mounts on to keep the wheelbase the same as stock. Also had to cut clearance for the shock and fabbed up new suspension linkage to adapt to the SP2 mount and change to ratio at the same time. I run a stock shock but with the new linkage it is better than before. It handles better than my custom CBR900RR which I run a fox shock and inverted forks on. Wheels are carrozzeria for a 954rr/ a 6inch rear rim with a 190 tire.

Looks real nice! Do you have any closeup/detail shots of the suspension linkage setup?

It never ceases to amaze me what some folks can do Kudos to you for a job well done. By the way, I posted a link to this thread on the UK VTR site site as I am sure some of our friends across The Pond will be equally impressed.

Impressive is right. I recall some company makes a beefed up swing arm specifically for the Hawk for $500ish.

Theres a pic of a red hawk in my gallery that has a brace welded under the stock swing arm

Any photo's of the swing arm mod in progress?

Nice work Mr. Billet, Like the swingarm, nice job shortining it, you can't even tell. I used GSXR 1000 forks and brakes with 929/954 triples and a modified RC51 wheel and I'm working on a swingarm.

I can't believe I'm gonna ask a cosmetic question... did you powder coat the passenger footpeg brackets, or is that off the RC or another bike also?

Aside from my question - awesome looking bike.

And while I'm posting, I love the finish on your pipes, superhawk22. What brand are they again?

Thanks, they're 2 brothers carbon fiber, they use a strange looking weave but I like 'em.

I too thought real hard about adding a swingarm arm. Shocked? :-)

The CBR600RR or 1000RR look to be great candidates since their suspension linkage bolts to the swingarm itself and not the bike thus eliminating that major headache. The downside is the shock is centered (like most bikes) and not to the right like the vtr/rc but I think there's plenty of room to drill a new upper mount hole in the frame support. Exhaust routing would be the biggest headache. A pristine complete setup (swingarm, shock, linkage, less wheel) sat for weeks on ebay for $99. It was tuff not hitting that buy-it-now button!

A longer swingarm isn't necessarily a bad thing. Current thinking is the longer the swingarm from pivot to axle the better. OK, it would look kinda' weird sticking out that far but..... raise the rear and drop the front some to compensate for the longer wheelbase and....

Yeah, I actually got to the point of getting measurements but I've forgotten 'em now. It's not a bolt on tho'.
