I think that you meant proactively?!

As for the windex advise, try not to take a bottle. I like using the wipes in a soft pack

-And as a an afterthought(or 2), I've wired my tankbag so that I can just plop it on the tank(I love magnetics), plug in theBatteryTender cable, and it powers the cell phone, Autocomm(when riding 2 up on the FJR), radar detector, and/or Ipod.

Also, Honda Pro cleaner. Comes in a spray can, cleans windshield/headlight/visor. You can use it to clean and polish the bike too. Get small microfiber towels from Wallyworld, the really come in handy when wiping/cleaning.

Have fun, and Hydrate!

Nope. I meant prophylactically, but that's the health care worker in me seeping out.

prophylactically - definition of prophylactically in the Medical dictionary - by the Free Online Medical Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Proactively works too though

Just did a trip from NC to Calif. and back by way of Ut, Wy, Mt, SD. 7500 miles in 15 days.
Most things have been covered from other posts.
Hydrate - Don't even start to get dry.
Sunscreen - definate thru Tx, NM, Az, Calif. - reapply often
Chap stick - lips will chap from wind, even with full face helmet
I used a cool rag around my neck - felt good for a hour or so
rain gear - I hit rain on and off the whole way.
If your tires are at 5000 miles now, yes new ones, you won't make it back.
tire plugs and a cheap air compressor - Target has one for around $10
can't say enough for a comfly seat.
If not in a hurry, take a few minutes break at your gas fill-ups. refill camelback and yourself, eat something (a snack or meal if it's time)
Ear plugs for sure, wind can really damage your ears.
Be cautious thru Tx, NM, Az. The winds can be horrible. I found myself leaning at 5 Degrees against it, then correcting when it got less. The short blasts are worst.
Stop and see the sites and some Nat'l Parks if you have time, you'll be glad later down the road. Take pictures and don't worry about stopping to do it. I wish I had stop a few more places, but was with others that didn't want to stop that much.
If you leaving Las Vegas going to Barstow to get to Calif. WARNING - very hot long ride with few places to stop. Check where gas is. You won't make it on a SH tank full.
Have fun and enjoy as it will be a trip (as they say) of a lifetime.

Call your credit card company and tell them what you're doing. It's a bad thing to have a block put on your card in the middle of nowhere.

And take along several ziplock plastic baggies. Sandwich, quart and gallon sizes. comes in handy when it rains for cell phones, cameras, gps, etc.
Also some trash bags (heavy duty) for clothes, etc inside whatever bags you got. Sometimes those rain covers ain't that great.

Yeah, I think something is seeping out of your propho-..... nevermind.

As a wshski said, bring bags. I just always started my day with everything bagged to eliminate the "oh crap" moments under an overpass.

To provide argument against other suggestions, dont stop unless you can without sweating. Sweat is the killer.
