CCT survey

CCT survey
Yes, I've searched first (!).
Just wondered if anyone had done a survey to simply find out what years pose the biggest trend for CCT failures...or for that matter, what mileage?
If you want to throw in your info, I'll build some data to show year / miles / OEM or APE and post this once I can see sufficient info that forms a trend. It sure would help in my decision making to go APE or not. Maybe it will help others...
All I need is;
2000, OEM, 13,000 kms.
Or whatever...let me know...

I don't think year of production has anything to do with it. My '03, which I bought new, developed front cylinder cam chain rattle before 5k miles. Without the rattle, I never would have worried about it. I spent a bit over $100 for APE's to make it go away.
If you've got the rattle, or you're just worrying about it, you'd be a fool not to spend a big, fat, friggin' $100-$120 and forget about it.

1998 OEM, changed the first set out at 60k miles and replaced them with OEM units, now at 80K miles.....
Don't slam the throttle shut at high RPM or let it sit and idle on the side stand and the stock units will last for a while...

1999, 36000kms, Stock CCT's but have a set of APE's in the mail and should be here any day, plan to change them out before the summer hits. From reading about the failures on the forum it seems like cheap insurance considering I want to keep this bike for alot of years to come.

98' with almost 30k. Just did the APE swap on mine. The stockers were rattlin like a ****. And yes after reading al about other members horrible CCT failures and having the top end having to be rebuilt after thet went on them, I got me a set. IMHO its the only way to go if you do alot of high RPM riding, twisties, etc.
Oh and When I did my swap I noticed that the valve train was alot quieter. Hope that heps others decide to spend the money on them. I paid 104.95 shipped.

I just replaced my stock CCTs yesterday with some APEs....it's a 1998 with about 28,000 miles...quite a noticeable difference in engine noise...I'll probably ride it more often now that I'm not worried about a breakdown and likely repair costs!

2005 - 9,600 miles. I am replacing my OEM CCTs with APEs now since I have everything apart to do the PAIR removal and TPS adjustment. I should look at the valves too, even though I have another 6,400 miles before that is due. JB

I read about the stock CCTs going out about 5k miles ago...when I hear the rattle...or decide I have some $ to spare...I'll upgrade to APEs. Until then....ride on and keep the rubber on the pavement! Two down!!! 8-)

In my unofficial, purely guestimate, based solely on feeling, opinion. There is probably a less than 10% chance of your CCTs failing.
But, APE ccts are only a $110 investment and they prevent a $2000 rebuild.
You buy insurance for the bike for more than that per year.
