syn. is a waste, at 3000 miles it is just as dirty and regular motorcycle motor oil and should be changed, motorcycle oil has additives in it because your oil runs motor and trans. the trans. will break down car oil really fast and there goes the motor, most motorcycle oils are the same tho, at the dealer ship i work out we sale nearly 50 cases of motorcycle oil every week of honda and yamaha for just 4.59 a quart, yea that cheap!

One of my local wallyworlds/chinamarts has Super Tech 15w40 CI universal for $1.48 per quart. Based on VOA and UOA i've seen on Bobistheoilguy.com, with 2k changes, it's as good as it gets. I use the 7317 Super Tech filter changed every other oil change.

That works out to about $7.60 per 2k miles oil and filter change. If you want to spend $50+ per oil and filter change, be my guest. It won't hurt anything. I just think you're wasting about $40+ dollars every time you change your oil.

yeah, THAT picture in my browser history is going to get IT's interest...

I spent a little time googling the synthetic vs conventional debate the other day and both articles I read were by Amsoil dealers, and both were in favor of synthetic. Not saying they're wrong, and obviously they've done more research than I have, but there's that other incentive to prefer synthetic. Anyone have any not-obviously-biased links?

I dunno, I've been running the Rotella for the past few changes and it seems to thin out quickly. After maybe 1500 miles the engine starts sounding like a sewing machine when hot.

I may give synthetic moto oil a try next.

Synthetic or nothing, I don't know about you guys, but my SH shifts a heck of a lot better with it, rather than a blend..

I like bacon. Granted, the guy who lives on soy bean sprouts, distilled water and organic spinach MIGHT live a year or two longer. The guy who eats bacon will get laid more often and have way more fun. You can take that to the bank.

If you think your happiness is dependent on spending $13/qt for motor oil with a picture of a motorcycle on the bottle, be my guest.

I'd rather continue with my $8 oil and filter changes and spend the money I save on bacon!

That's cool. hell i thought all honda and yamaha oils were synthetic or at least a blend. Actually, synthetic oil is functionally dirtier at 3000 mi because it doesn't assimilate the dirt as well as organic. Like i said in an earlier post, you can mix synthetic and organic yourself to get the recipe for your particular preference. If you want to run high mileage between oil changes, add 1 quart synthetic to 3 quarts organic because organic holds dirt in suspension more efficiently and your getting the additional anti-wear/heat breakdown resistant additives. I usually add some snythetic (1 1/2 quart) and change at 3+ thous. miles. The synthetic I add is typically 5-50w and the organic usually is 20-50w.

Sweet another oil thread!

I use Mobil 1 15w50 in everything I own and the SH loves it! Wally World has it 5 gal. for approx. $23 here in FL...

Used to use recycled Chinese cooking oil, but had to stop when she backfired an eggroll

actually there are two threads in this thread going..

1 is what oil the men here are using in their bike.

2 is what kind of oil the navy is using..on each other..lol

Army>Navy. hehe. ok so i got the super tech oil and super tech filter going.. working out decnt for now.. going to change after i run thru the sea foam and put about 500 miles or so on the bike.. going to go half synth and half organic. see how that works out.

I put some seafoam in before my last oil change, it worked great and came out extra nasty. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to change the oil again soon after an oil change with seafoam? I just went out for 200+ miles today, and the shifting seems harsh again......I'm wondering if residual seafoam is the culprit?

Yes, change it. Seafoam is a solvent and will thin the oil.
