Buying a used engine...
Hey.
I'm about to go look at a used engine in the next few days.
What should I look for on these engines?
The guy says it has only 3000mi, and it was a strong motor before he crashed it.
I don't think the engine can be started, so I have to take his word for it.
I have tools and can do various tests, ie: compression, or valves, etc...
So what should be looked at on these bikes?
I know next to nothing about hawks Other bikes yes but these guys, no.
Thanks for any help.

Depending on the miles you may want to bore and rebuild it anyway using oversized pistons...

I have a 2002 Hawk will a complete 1998 motor swap into it without a great deal of work? My CCT failed and bent my front two valves. So if the swap is difficult rebuilding the head is my better option. A knowledgeable opinion would be greatly appreciated

The basic motor never changed over the life of the bike. The only thing you'd have to swap off your old bike (to my knowledge) is the small thermosensor. (used by your digital dash) However reinstalling the engine into the frame requires tools only available from Honda. If your piston is not damaged from the valves hitting it, you could swap just the head.
