Buying NEW 03 SuperHawk (i think)
#31
Yep... I should have run the snow blower... Got up Monday morning to leave for work and had a 5ft drift through my driveway....
Snowblower of course hadn't been started all year, and didn't wanna start... So I plowed through the drift with my truck several times to make a path... wish i had that on video... Then told the wife.. "DON'T STOP WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE... JUST STAY ON THE GAS UNTIL CLEAR OF THE DRIVEWAY..."
But of course, she stopped, and she got stuck... But lucky for me, a farmer came by and noticed her stuck, pulled her out, then proceeded to plow my driveway.. lol YAH...
So... I've been thinking I may change plugs on the snow blower, as i'm sure thats all it needs... and sell it... Then go buy a plow for my mower... I've got a 20HP Yard Pro MTD that is plenty big enough for my driveway, which is 100-110ft to the garage... two car garage, which narrows to single car driveway at street. Its gravel, so i don't need it to do a perfect job...
BUT... on a side note....
I think i'm gonna go buy this darn SuperHawk on Thursday or Friday... Haven't gotten the price moved at all, but I really like it more than the SV's, and think i'll be happier with the power from it... So what the hell... whats a few hundred bucks to get what i want, and have it now...

I don't blame you at all for getting new but just keep in mind that since we are a rare and discontinued breed, our resale price is below the dirt. I love mine and do not plan to sell her soon but it is a fact.
I purchased my 03 in Aug 07 with 4K miles, nice set of Jardine high mounts (^$500 add on), in pristine condition for $4000. Elderly gent who decided that it was just too much for him.
Just keep that in mind if you like trading every few years. You should expect to lose $2000-$2500 when you drive her off the lot.
IMHO: he should come way down. I watched a brand new (never titled) 05' for 2 months on e-bay with a buy it now of $5995 plus fees, and it never did sell!! They finally gave up.

good luck on the decision because it ultimately rests on you, but here are my 2 cents. I own a 98 super chicken started takin it apart yesterday and with 2 bad plugs a air filter in desperate need of seeing the garbage can, the pair system in place, and my secondary breather filters disentagrating in the air box, Basically bought the bike used but i knew she wasnt prestine by any means. My partner runs an 07 SVS 650 basically stock, minor pieces stripped from here and there. Decently quick bike but she still wont hold to the Super Chicken even in the above mentioned. The 650 was close behind in 1st and 2nd but from then on fell on her face, the bike cannot keep with the bigger displacement. Both bike will do the wheelies but thats not what we focus on. We are the zero to how fast did we hit and hold providing no traffic on the streets. But to throw in an option you can get the SVS650 as a naked bike seems to run better than a Standard SV but not quite sure the difference. One option is you can get a bike very equivalent to the SuperChicken from suzuki in the form of an SVS1000, Seems to spec relatively close to the honda. But there are minor differences between the 2. I paid 3500 otd on my superhawk, was willing to pay more, but didnt have to. She has 20k miles on her, I am in the process of putting new plugs, Kand N air Filter, New secondary filters and Making the P.A.I.R. system obsolete since i am in Oklahoma. As soon as i can get the other parts in they will be on and i shall run the 650 again to determine how much of a gain i have been givin back.
But all in all its all about you ask the dealership if you can take the Superchicken for a ride and the other dealership about the 650 test ride, Some places are more concerned with if your gonna like the new ride or not, But it never hurts to ask. Good Luck in your decision email me if have any further Ques.
Later Bro

Welcome Joshuatest, don't buy the SV650 bro cuz you'll be trading up 1st chance you get to a Superchicken
Torque is the key and 70 ft/Lbs = fun...40ish = let's wait awhile to have fun...LOL!
Good luck whatever you decide and if you really want the best answer to your dilemma go test ride both...RC
Also, no busting on Rachel cuz she's hot and cooks

its me again.. lol
I did think about the SV1000S's, but they are $2000.00 more. $8699 i think...
I have no intentions on trading, or selling the bike inside of 4yrs at all... So while i'm sure the loss from making it new to used will be there, it really doesn't matter... I'm getting BRAND NEW tires, chain, sprockets, plastics, brakes, filters, and well... brand new everything... PLUS the Warranty
Thats the thing that has me shopping new... for one, i can finance it pretty easy, and pay it off when i've got the extra cash.
But the main thing... MOST... used bikes need something... I mean come on, who puts new tires, fluids, filters, chain, sprockets, brakes.... on a used bike before selling it??? I've always bought used, rode for a year or two at most, then re-sold and bought used again... This time I want something that has the power to satisfy me (superhawk), and that is comfortable to ride with my wife (superhawk), and that i can keep for 5+ years without feeling like my bike isn't enough...
The way i see it, I've always owned 600's, and even with modern technoligy, the SuperHawk will still hold with the modern 600's 5yrs from now... So that keeps me happy...
And the 03 SuperHawk, unlike the 08 SV1000s provides a nice low payments that i am more than comfortable with, even on the tightest months.. AND ITS A HONDA!
Anyway... they are closed on Wednesday's, so i'll go down there again tomorrow and make one more attempt to shave a few hundred bucks if nothing else, or negotiate a lower fairing into the deal or something... Then i'll probably just buy the damn thing...

And i wish snot meant mod time... But unfortunately, there is a LONG LONG LONG list of mods that have to take place before she gets any attention... I'll of course chop that stupid license plate frame out, and remount the license plate much higher, and probably replace blinkers at some point this winter with smaller ones, but my house has a "started" addition that I've got to keep some cash aside for, and my truck is possibly going under the knife for a Dana 44/60 SAS job this winter too... So as much as i would love to start modding right away... I think this bike will remain mostly stock for the first year... I'll probably go to 16/43 sprockets, get a lower fairing, change blinkers, possible new seat, blue headlight, and chop the undertail out... Thats about all the plans for now... Oh yea... AND RIDE IT... ALOT...
#47
Advice on the undertail...
Spend the extra money and get a nice one like Mototeck or Rumble. It costs more but solves the turn signal problem and looks WAY better than just a fender eliminator. I put the Mototeck on my '03 and the color actually matched completely. If you want I'll throw up some pics so you can see what I'm talking about.

I was honestly thinking about just chopping whats there for now, and thinking about it later... And wasn't sure, but was probably gonna go to a intergrated signal/brake light to eliminate them in the back... but i don't know for sure... I'm trying to stay away from the mods for this year, just because I've got to many other things to blow money on right now... But who know's... I'll keep searching ebay for things i want, and IF i find exactly what i'm looking for cheap, i will defanately buy.. lol

I have a "chopped stock fender" on my bike. If you want to trade, I'll throw in some money. I'm building up an "Adventure Hawk"/ "poor man's KTM 950" which really should have a rear fender for mud control. (see avatar)

I know exactly what you mean by the list of priorities Joshua. I finally installed a long needed clutch to my off-road bike and axle bearings to the ATV. Been meaning to do that for a year now.......
Take your time and search e-bay for some deals. You might end up changing your mind soon about what you want anyway. Seeing members bike pictures will help you figure it all out.

Tom,
I'm not opposed to that... shoot me a pic of your chop job...
as for priorities...
My wife made me PROMISE to complete our home addition in exchange for not flipping shht over this purchase... which i need to get done anyway... So I'm in dept to my wife untill atleast 2009.. lol.... My truck needs SAS'd, needs a snorkle and new exhaust, my blaster needs a clutch cable, and new tires, our 2005 SkyBreeze 49cc scooter needs a fuel pump, my wife is due for a new car, our pop up camper could use some cleaning up, and new paint... um... lets see... nope, thats not it... snow blower is running like shat, broke the thingy on it that turns the direction it throws the snow, my riding mower started going through belts this year like no other... so gotta pull the deck and check out the pullys, as i'm sure something is wrong... AND THEN THERE IS the big picture window in the garage thats supposed to go in the kitchen, above the sink, once i move the sink over to the outside wall of the kitchen, strip all the cabnets and counters out, and replace, run new watter lines for the dishwasher, and water dispenser on the fridge....
yep, i would say my plate is a little full right now.. lol
But i'm sure i'll sneak a mod or two in for the new SuperHawk, wouldn't want it feeling jelious sitting next to the truck in the garage or anything

Rotate the tires? Ha! Everybody knows you don't rotate the VTR's tires in upstate N.Y., you just put on the snow tires after Thanksgiving. You DID get the dealer to at least throw in a set of snow tires, right?
#57
Actually i'm probably prett lucky where i live compared to some around here... We are kinda in one of those pockets that doesn't typically get hit as hard with snow... So in the last few years, there has been atleast 1-2 day's per month even in the dead of winter where you get clear roads, and half way decent temp that you could "exercise" your bike.. lol So i'll try my best to keep those tires "rotating" all year.. lol

I'm gonna go cry about the weather now... and blame my wife for making me move here.....
