Bling, You get ice down there?
We are iced in here. Power and phones are ok. Trees are heavy though. Hawkrider is down - no power no phone - has been for two days. Big ice storm there. I guess Marm won't be sending fruit baskets anytime soon. I don't remember having this many days off in a row.

Oklahoma is still trying to get out of this mess....they were not prepaired for this kind of storm. Been off school now since Friday and doesn't look good for the rest of the week. Oh well....I will just play with the hawk in the garage.
I would really like a clean road to try out my brakes...but they say a snow storm is coming this weekend in OKC. I am having to work on my patience.
You guys in Texas don't normally get this kind of stuff right?

I'll be sending out baskets of canned fruit.
Look on the bright side - this icy winter will blow over eventually. But when the Big One hits (San Andreas Fault), we'll always be the island of Los Angeles.

1989 was a real winter in Austin, STSH! It was 4F for three days. Did all sorts of damage. With the ice and snow this time ranks right up there near the top. This city is just about shut off. There's usually a thousand cars an hour past my store - today it's couple dozen.
Marm, are you sure it's going to be an island or a second Atlantis?
We've been weathered in so long the dogs are getting cabin-fever. When I got up this morning it was 27F and raining! Probably no work here until next week too!

If we turn into an Atlantis, I hope that clears up the smog and traffic congestion.
I can't imagine such low temps for a long period of time. Brrr!! Hope your Superhawks (and other bikes) are cozy in the garage.

Yeah, I was down in the shop yesterday working on that stupid mc jack - didn't go well - almost dropped the VFR testing it. Nothing leaking so all it well with the antifreeze stuff. I don't mind working in the cold weather down there but at 30F it just takes soooo long before you can comfortably handle your tools.
Russian Girls???? Time to go to work, Marm! You got zap-it powers now, right?

Nope, no ice down here. It stopped about 60-70 miles north of us. Stayed in the 30's all day yesterday and probably today. We're such wuss'es tho' that they postponed schools for two hours with a 10am opening. WTH for? Give us more time to find pants and a coat I guess? LMAO!
Bikes are tuck away in the garage while the car freezes outside. MIght be heading up to New Braunfels with a bud to pick up his new Tuono at AF1 this weekend. That's if the weather breaks up there so they can finish all the prep work (dyno and such) as it's unheated garage.

Yeah, this is the most winter we've had since 1989. The ice is starting to get thicker on the power lines - about a half inch right now. 28F and raining. More rain predicted through the weekend with only mid sixty's by Wednesday of next week. Just got a call from one of my Hisp. buddies. Only water in radiator - what to do? OMG - just don't start it - oops too late - burned up the belt. What's the old saying? Survival favors the prepared mind!

On the news this morning the cops are giving BIG tickets for folks messing around (driving aggressively) in the City. Slippery can be fun....in the right place and time. I saw a kid in my neighborhood driving an F-150(2WD) and he stomped on the gas and then tried to turn the corner....only being able to do 3 full 360 spins and stopping in the neighbors yard. Then he wanted to escape quickly only getting stuck and having to rock back and forth to get gone. He's lucky he didn't hit anything or anyone else driving around here. I think it's going to take longer to clear this ice than they planned.
They are using big front end loaders and graders to try to clear this ice.
I hate Winter here in Oklabama.....That's north of Alahoma..ha ha.

Honestly, STSH, winter that you can count on is almost a good thing. Down here it only happens a little at a time (24 hours or less) or every twenty years. I have been saying that all these palm trees they've been planting for the last ten years have no place in Austin (it's my job to say **** like that) and now they will find out why! Did you see my post above about Pete and his truck? Dumbass! I froze up a tank sprayer and a power washer that cost me a thousand bucks but if you have enough machines sooner or later that's going to happen to the best of us but your truck? NOT!

We had a good 1/2" or so of ice here in Buffalo NY and some temps in the teens - No big damage though, we had that with the surprise storm on Friday Oct 13th with 22 inches of wet snow and lots of folks without power and phone service mostly due to fallen trees... I was running my 5k generator for 48 hrs after that "surprise"... The VTR is sitting in the garage with the battery minder keeping it happy. Supposed to be in the low 40's tomorrow but with all the salt on the roads I likely won't be riding it soon.

You're right Rick! We won't have the salt but we will have plenty of sand. They don't have salt here because there's no way to store it for the few times they need it but the corners will be full of sand for weeks! Across the country - we're going to all have to be really careful when we get back out there. We don't need a bunch of lowsides to start out the new year!

I agree Nuhawk, I was thinking the same for here in OK....a couple of good rains and some high winds should clear alot of it off. But I am still easy for the first couple of weeks after this mess.

Well, I'm back finally. Our power was out for about 36 hours. Had to buy a generator, which was inevitable since I live out here in the sticks. I have about $500 in saltwater fish I had to save, plus the woodstove alone wasn't kickin it. I threw the main and reverse powered my house with 3 double male extension cords. She did damn well running pretty much whatever I wanted to turn on in the house. Other than the well pump being 220V and not having any water we did okay.
Cable came back about 10am this morning.
Was -2F this morning at 7. Downright BALMY!!!

Yeah, it was 72 or so here in sunny FL, wore shorts and ran the A/C and I still feel sorry for myself. the riding sucks. well, bikeweek (trailerqueenweek?) is coming so we can pose and drink and act stupid anyway. hey, how about a new TV show: Road Swap. two riders and their bikes swap lives for a week. see how the other half lives? I understand if no one wants to come down here...
#22
Yeah, you and Superhawk22 He's goin' to the track next week and I'm still tore down because it's too frikkin' cold in the shop to work! I guess it was our turn at the 'canes so to speak.

Good to have you back! I have a 5kw generac generator and it powers everything in my house that I need, furnace, sump pump, freezer, refrigerator/freezer, lights, tv and computer - even had my neighbor's sump pump running off it and it worked well for 48 hrs back in october when we were hit hard with a freak storm - first time I had to use it in the 5 years I had it. I have the gen running through a 6 circuit transfer switch but as long as you throw the main breaker off your pretty safe. I was glad to get normal power back in the area and thus my cable modem back - dialup was no fun but it works. Generators were selling for premium prices after the storm, was darn glad to have the used $300 beast I bought back in 2001.

It won't be hard to figure out which bum is me. I look like Noah standing on a street corner: two Labradors, two tool boxes, two Honda motorcycles! I'll call the Captain and tell him he's having company! . . . for an extended stay!
