Another Wheelie Question...

I'll do the occasional stand up. Especially when there is an audiance. They look harder even tho they are easier to maintain.
Although I still suggest staying on the seat till you are very comfortable in a wheelie before doing stand ups.

I rule!
I can only do wheelies in 6th gear on the front wheel pirouetting just before putting it in reverse. . .oh, yeah, while sitting on the rear forks.
Really though, I've often wondered if mine isn't set up quite right. I have to really want to have the bike come up or it doesn't budge. . .Maybe goes back to my dirtbike days trying to keep the 500's planted under heavy acceleration is a subliminal thing.

15/43 here and it's actually more difficult to go fast from a stop and keep the front wheel down. Not quite like Loco and his "look at it and it wheelies in 2nd", but I've been getting pretty good at getting sit-downs in 2nd. Roll from 5 to 6k, snap closed, snap open, and pull some. Floats up. Sit toward the back of the seat. For clutch wheelies I get up to between 4-5k and then roll in as I 'dip and drop' the clutch. Snaps up. I sit toward the front of the seat on those so I've got better purchase on the tank with my knees since it comes up so much faster.
Oh, and ALWAYS COVER THE REAR BRAKE. I intentionally rolled in harder clutching a couple up the other day and as it started rolling pretty quickly past the 'floaty' point, I hit the brake while staying on the gas. Down she came, but not so swift as to put you on your nose. One of those 'good to know that works' kinda tests.

stand up wheelies are alot easier once you get the hang of them. around here everone has the gsxr and riding wheelies so i had to too. but i'm the type that has to ride wheelies on anything! the hawk is great to practice stand ups on b/c the exhaust will help you stay up if you have to have help. stand up or sit down they are fun. if i snap my throttle at all in first it will just about flip. in second i slip the clutch and roll into it. third is stand up and slip, roll, and pull. with stock gearing.

AHAHA.. Sounds like most of you have got the basic idea down.
The trick to a second gear clutch wheelie is simple: When you pull in the clutch and revv up your engine, make sure you are at least 4k revvs HIGHER than whatever RPM you are cruising at. Pop goes the clutch and up comes that front end, WAY smoother than a power wheelie, but not really as cool IMHO.
By the way, I actually have a video from my second trackday where I pull a victory lap wheelie as I cross the finish line. If you guys want I can rip a copy of it and post it.
Peace
BTW - Superhawk22, 2,117 posts, wtf?! How many keyboards have you gone through?

Wheelies are dangerous!
They should be left to the professionals......
Plumbers, Masons, Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, Mechanics,
Landscapers, Pool cleaners, Telephone repairmen, Salesmen, Home business owners, Teachers, Tennis instructors...well you get the idea.
Just no cab drivers, Postal workers, or football players...that would be asking for trouble.
That's my .02 er .05...oh just keep the change :-)
