I can believe that - I have heard the 134a isn't too kind on the environment...

I am EPA section 609 certified for R12 so I can still buy it and I do use it in my older truck.

What happened is that Dupont's patent ran out on R12 and other people would have been able to make it, so Dupont's lobbyists got their new product R134a set to be what we had to use under the guise of being green.
