Air Filter... Anyone buy from here?

Hey all...

I've noticed this guy selling these air filters (non-oem) on Ebay for a couple months now.... just wondering if anyone out there has bought one from this guy. The starting bid seems pretty cheap and shipping is reasonable, just wondering if the filter is quality or crap? Thanks in advance.

J.

Why do you want to risk and put something unfamiliar in your bike? I would get one from the dealer; or go for K&N one for 70 bucks - especially having slip-ons (it's washeable, and given high mileage some VTRs last for, you will end up saving money over the stock).

When I looked at his stuff, I get the feeling it's from Emgo. Just a guess. Their stuff is usually of lower quality than OEM but I'm not necessarily saying it's junk either. And it's always WAY cheaper.

Personally, I'd buy it but I've come up with an even cheaper option that I've posted on the forum before:

Hey,

Yeah Alic I understand your point on taking a chance, but that's basically why I asked if anyone has used it. I probably won't go for it unless someone has bought from that guy specifically.

As for the K&N I've heard mixed things on them working fine or messing up the fuel mixture (too much air).... so I won't go that route just to avoid any hassle if it's even true.

I don't think I'd shy away if I knew it was a EMGO part though, like Superbling suggested it might be. I doubt Honda makes their own filter... so who knows what company it really is. Could be an EMGO with a Honda logo for all I know.

Well, like I said, hopefully someone has used that specific filter and can tell me either way... otherwise I'd probably go the Honda route just for piece of mind.

When it comes to filters, be it oil filter or air filter, I always go with OEM. As mentioned above, no reason to risk anything.

I will not be using K&N filter since I won't be rejetting the bike. I can see its appeal, but haven't really heard anyone suggest it makes enough of a change on any bike to make it worth while. As for re-usability, the hassle of cleaning/spraying oil/etc. is enough to lead me towards OEM filters, especially since they are only changed, what, 12k or 16 miles??

just my 2 cents.

Slowhawk,

Try emailing one of the buyers with your question. I've found most buyers more than happy to tell you more about a product than the limited space given for feedback.

Faz,

Replacement really depends on your riding conditions with those mileage figures as maximums. It's really dusty here in the hot/dry season so I replace sooner.

of course it depends on riding conditions. Having been limited to a local board here in CA, I sometimes forget that not all people live in this climate conditions.

frodaddy996,

Thanks for the info. When you get around to swaping them I'd love to hear an update of how it functions and fits. Maybe som pics as well? I have a little bit of time (months) before I do my, Spring is almost here tune-up. So I don't mind waiting.
