adjusting the suspension

I want to ride with my fiance on the motorcycle but in order to do that we have to adjust the rear suspension. I have looked online on how to adjust the suspension but I can not find anything. So how do we adjust the rear suspension that way I can ride on the back?

Pg 59 - In the downloadable & searchable Honda VTR1000F Service manual PDF >

REAR SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT - SPRING PRELOAD

The spring preload adjuster has 7 positions.
To change the spring preload, turn the adjuster
with the pin spanner.
Position 2 is the standard position.
Position 1 is for soft spring preload.
Positions 3 to 7 are for hard spring preload.

The rear suspension is pretty hard as standard (so you might not need to adjust much if at all) and the front is overly soft.

Here is a pic that shows what you need to do. You need the spanner wrench from the tool kit. Higher up the ramp (larger #), the more spring preload (stiffer).

BTW you need the tool which comes in the stock tool kit. It has a handle that goes on it. Give it a good wd40 spray to help you along.
