Story of my bike! Lesson learned, never buy a bike in the dark. So I bought a Jeep in the dark instead.

I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't have a bent shifter fork by now, and a fair bit of metal shavings in the oil... So I think a bit of service work might be in order... Either on your own, but I doubt you're a good enough mechanic... No offence meant, just an honest assesment... Or by a qualified mechanic...
Either way, I really, really doubt it's "fixed" that easily...

I think I'd win that contest, unless somebody can beat the loose velocity stack in the airbox, wedging itself sideways in the throttle, preventing deceleration (and causing continued acceleration) between corners at Thunderhill.

I stood up on the seat of a Harley and proceded to crash into the back of a pickup on Duval street in Key West I was sober too. Knowing how much you guys hate Harleys though you'll probably tell me that was the smartest thing I could have done with it...

Good to hear things working now, but I have to agree with Tweety as well, if you had to force the sixth into gear there it is very likely that one of the three forks you have in the gear is bent, which could mean that it is not over yet. But at list you know you have another gear now

im glad to hear it all worked out.I was going to suggest to bring it over to where i work and i would look at it for you.
like i said,im only a bridge away from you.if you need some help or advice,i have no problem helping.

Not even close to winning...doesn't sound like you did permanent damage...I'm not going to rewrite and re-embarrass myself with how I destroyed my motor....but it was self induced Manual CCT failure

Hopefully it's all good but I'd agree with Tweety too. Not out of the woods yet. At least the VTR is a relatively easy bike to do a tranny in. Don't even need to pull the motor. Just have to suspend the rear end in the air, remove the swingarm assembly and drop the bottom half of the engine. Though you do have to be relatively mechanically inclined still to do it successfully.

Yeah, that's about as permanent as it get's without a bodybag... Note for future reference... Don't do that...

the Super Hawk was my last street ride. Sand in a shady corner near the end of a very long day of riding. My buddy slid in the sand and his tires hooked back up. I hit his sand and low-sided immediately at about 75 MPH.
the RC51 was the next time on a motorcycle, 4 years later. 15 minutes in to the first session.

I did something similar to my KZ750 in 87. Didn't walk away, it was sand left over from snow days. Took me 8 years to get back on and I chose a BMW. The Hawk is way more fun!
