03-01-12 Memento Mori - motorcycle crash aftermath. - YouTube - Aftermath video
I would like to thank the designers and workers who created my:
Helmet - HJC/SparX
Jacket, - Frank Thomas
Back brace - ICON
Gloves - Alpinestars
Knee Pads - EVS
Boots, - BILT
These people dedicated their time, efforts and passion into designing products which literally saved my life and made it possible for me to walk away from a motorcycle accident with some bruises a dislocated shoulder and shaken confidence.
If you are one of my riding friends I have this to say to you "ALL THE GEAR ALL THE FRAKING TIME".
*I would also like to thank Officer Ziggler for taking me to the hospital.
* I would like to thank Dr. Brian S Hedrick for attending to me
* I would like to thank Danny for being gentle while taking my Xrays.
I would never ever disrespect these people's effort by thanking an imaginary sky god.

ohh my friend your status just changed from those who will to those who have . It takes some time but if it's in you to ride again, you can rebuild your confidence. Glad you were able to walk away and I don't know if it was just because it was dark but the bike didn't look as bad as I thought it would. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
And the parts vultures chime in in 3-2-1

Pffft, all I read up there is Your OK, and UPGRADE time...... Recovery and healing in our house is know as Planning and Parts ordering quality time.
Quick healing, and start the catalog or Ebay surfing, makes the time go by.

Yeah, screw the insurance company, at least as far as the bike is concerned. If it is only as bad as the left fairings (couldn't tell too well from the video) I think you'd be crazy to let them take it and total it out when you could fix it out of pocket for a few hundred $. What's the story behind the crash? Glad you appear to be only bumped and battered a bit. Good luck.

Adjusters are going to bring her home this weekend so I can asses the damage. They will most likely total her out and hopefully I can buy her back. Thinking back and looking at the pics and videos it appears that she will become a street fighter which with her polished frame should be awesome.

thanks. It turns out that my suspicions were correct. This bike had been totaled out before in 2003. The company I bought it from goecogreenmachines.com (my slam site for them) never told me until I got my title.

Glad you were not seriously hurt. Not quite ATGATT though, as jeans are not anywhere near proper riding pants. There are also much better chest/back, glove and boot gear out there.
Two questions:
#1 Details of incident (there are no such things as "accidents") and what could you have done in 20-20 hindsight to prevent it; was anyone ticketed and was a professional and comprehensive accident report generated; and where does the fault lie % wise?
#2 Besides your need to express and share your relief of surviving so well your first crash (unfortunately if you keep riding there may be more), why have you basically broadcast for the world to see and hear what occurred?
Now the Sermon on the Rockers...
Even if you were 100% at fault (I hope that is not the case), the health and property insurance claims people are going to have a field day with you, and you may have cooked your own goose (hopefully it will matter not). In "this day and age" with cell phone cameras, You Tube, social networking websites, internet search engines, etc it is difficult enough to maintain privacy and confidentiality. But to beam to the planet and stars beyond what occurred yourself IMO is not prudent or wise.
Same goes for running a video camera on your motorcycle. The chances of recording for posterity what you did correctly and the offending party doing the opposite, is very slim. However, the likelihood of creating a incredibly useful and irrefutable piece of evidence for the police, attorneys and insurance companies on the other hand is stupendously high. We have all seen the squid footage, including terminal incidents.
I just do not understand why riders insist on making it so easy for the "Man".

I do not want to give details at this time, however I was at least partially at fault and this was a hit and run. The police were able to determine who the driver was and I was not cited. Florida is also a no fault state. This was my light riding gear. Last night the humidity was 100% and I dressed down.
If I am at fault then I am at fault I am not going to hide or lie about it.

Aloha Geek,
From your videos it seems that you got thru O.K. and seem positive.
When you first start to ride you learn, or should comprehend that it
is not a matter of if... just when. You have got thru the when, now
its time to move on. Your bike still runs(thank goodness) and you
can now determine which way to "customize" it. I often thought
that if I ever went down I would consider going naked(bike). You have
a lot to be thankful for. Use it and go on. When ever I leave for a
ride on my bike, I accept the possibbility that I may never get back.
Seems morbid maybe but we enjoy a dangerous sport. I hope to get back
safely, don't get me wrong. I try not to take unneccesary risks, but riding
is a risk, a fun, addriniline flowing, life renewing, high for me. As I am sure
you and everyone on our forum experience.
I am glad that you are O.K.(able to post videos) on your experience and I
wish the best to you. My advise, check out everything on the bike and
yourself. If everything checks out A-O.K., jump back on the saddle and
RIDE ON, RIDE WELL!!!!

I strongly suspect the tow truck company did that. When my bike caught fire last year I send the guy with that towing rig away because I did not approve. They towed it here like this without my knowledge.

dude...
so sorry to hear about your situation...
crushed my left femur on a bike in 1973...spent eight months in an Army hospital...
but I could never stop riding...
from now on you will be a much better rider...
good luck

So I have a question. I have been looking at street fighter light kits, but they all seem to be using non automotive bulbs. Does anyone know off the top of their heads about any nice street fighter light kits with actual automotive lights or HID?

A little late, but good to hear your still alive! Like someone else said, its only a matter of if, not when ya go down....
An to your last question, most aftermarket stuff is all LED based, 12VDC...and the more you search this site the more info you'll turn up.
Have fun with the rebuild!

Glad to hear your ok.
Like I always do I think you should write out the best you can how it happened for the benefit of other riders.
All accidents are the fault of whoever was piloting the bike. (unless you were landed on by an invisible plane).
Unless someone else was steering for you, you should take responsibility in your own head. This way you can learn from it. Blaming someone else wont help you at all.
I would bet that most of those talented people that helped you thanked God for the outcome.
