Ideally, the inner tie rod ends should be on the same axis that the upper and lower control arms create (during static or straight driving). This also requires that the outer be in the same position. IF either is offset either way, so should the other (i am sort of sure, but not inclined to make a model at this time).

you could always buy a rack and pinion that is set up to be centered.

Looks good. I can wait to see it finished. I dont know anything about VW's but on all the mini trucks I have bagged, Ive just 4 linked it. Can you do that on the VW??? Or is how the rear suspension setup up stock not allow a 4 link setup???

yeah Chris is right it is independent. I may fiddle more with drawings to see how long the tie rods would need to be ideally and I will post up my findings. I may need to do what auto's link showed a rack with the tie rod connectors centered. That way I could make the rods as long as possible because I already have a feeling they still will be too short from ideal.
