Turbo Cage Build

The new project is underway!

The plan is to build this 1987 Porsche 3.3L turbo motor as bullet proof as possible and convert the old restrictive fueling system into a new fuel gushing EFI system.

Let's get to it!

Too early in the build to know the power yet, but it's safe to say the wheel Hp/Torque will be well North of the original 282 Hp rating at the crank.

The old 4 speed tranny is a rock crusher that can handle 600+...the weak point here is the driver...at 2990 lbs the power to weight ratio will require a steady foot, not a lead foot like mine

damn, only a 4 spd, thats gotta have some wide gearing if you wanna hit any kind of fun top speed. what are you gonna use it for? personally id build the suspension after the motor and make a hell of a track car out of it

Building it as a daily driver, but I have a second set of wheels with slicks in case I feel the need for speed

Incredible track but so dangerous. They let anyone on the track and all at the same time. In the first video, it shows the driver is only weary loafers, a short sleeve shirt and no helmet. Here is the specs on the track Nürburgring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

more pics

looks like my rod brg clears are perfect, but my cylinders are showing a little wear and are 0.03 to 0.04mm out of spec, so skirt coatings may be in order to tighten up the slugs in the holes...

Actually, 8.25+ Bridge-To-Gantry isn't very fast, especially with that light traffic... He was more or less crusing around at a fast tourist speed... Sub 8, BGT is a good time and the really fast guys do it closer to 7... I have gotten it down close to 7 on three occasions, all in traffic... Most notable lap was when I did it in 7.54 and counted 6 tourist busses...

It's not anymore dangerous than you make it... It's really not a track in that sense, racing per see isn't allowed officially... In terms of usage and regulations it's a road... It's just a single lane, no speedlimit road, that's all...

It's not all that uncommon for tourists that are there the first times, to go out do a few laps thinking they are fast, just to get passed by the locals going to the grocery store in thier budget car from the early eighties or so... That usually shuts them up...

best wheels for the 911 body style in my opinion. modeled after the speedline wheels on the original RS cars. Kinesis also made their Supercup 3 piece wheels. There is a guy named Thatcher in seattle that refurbishes and build the kinesis especially. If you want contact info PM me and I can probably dig it up somewhere.

Thanks Bill, this pcar came with 2 sets of C2 wheels, but I'm like you and think the old 3 piece Speedlines look sweetest on a 930. I'll let you know when I get closer if I can use Thatcher's help.

Wheel

Those wheels make the car look more aggressive. I think the newer style Porsche's look to tame from the factory.

Machine Shop & Beer

Parts at machine shop (JB Racing): crank is being cross drilled to oleviate known main brg oiling problem. Cases are having plugs drilled and tampped for removable plugs that allow easy cleaning of oil passageways. Heads and Cylinders are getting fire rings so they seal properly to withstand major BOOST

In the meantime, while I'm waiting for parts to come back I racked and tapped my Belgian Tripel home brew after 9 weeks of condisoning in a secondary ferminter.
