Randy;
The two handguns you referenced are both very good.
My thoughts in no particular order;
Springfield Armory guns are world class. I've had a "Series 90s" 1911A1 for nearly 20 years, paid $329 for it (good old days). It doesn't like hand loaded semi wadcutters but is otherwise 100% reliable.
Kimbers are great guns but Springfields are a better deal.
My personal preference would be for an alloy frame with a Commander length slide/barrel but that's just me.
I've also got a Para Ordinance P-13 LW. Commander length slide and barrel, shorter butt, 12 round capacity. Slightly fatter grip fame but I can handle it with my rather small hands.
Actually, when I had an LAPD CCW, I almost always carried My H&K P7, which I consider to be the greatest CCW pistol ever invented. Politics changed, La Raza took over, so no more CCW for me. Now my daily carry is my old Smith Body Guard Air Weight for obvious reasons. I'll still be fine, but I've got to get my **** out of here as soon as feasible!

Which gun is better for CC is a debate that always goes back and forth. I never liked the 1911 for that purpose because of it's weight, I'm a glock guy. If it's cold out and I'm wearing a big jacket then the XD-45 might get some hip time, but other than that it's glock 19 all the way.
For all the people who talk down about 9mm, I don't want to hear it. Blah, blah, blah, blah. You take two or three 147 grain hydra shock 9mm rounds to the chest and then tell me how useless they are.

I used to teach CQB and pistol classes for a private range here in NC and I saw 2 Kimbers EXPLODE on separate occasions. One was a factory load, one wasn't. Both times Kimber was very helpful and sent new guns quickly, just makes me a little leery about them. I have also seen a lot of VERY NICE Kimbers shoot extremely well, so who knows.

My favorite 9mm pistols are my H&K P7 and my Browning HiPowers. But that is a matter of personal preference, not a claim of greater effectiveness over a Glock 19.
If you carry a properly loaded Glock 19, you're as well armed as anyone with a handgun.
Since we are on the gun topic, i will throw in my 2 cents. I have shot hundreds of different types of weapons and i personally feel that you are most protected by the firearm that you are most comfortable with no matter what the caliber is! The more comfortable you are with the gun, the more accurate you will be. The more accurate you are, means you can pump just that much more into your target.
I have always shot hunting rifles, shotguns and all sorts of pistols growing up. When i went into the military at 18, i got caught up in all the military type weapons and began to stray from the guns i grew up with and started buying assault style weapons. After the military, i went back to my 'ol trustworthy hunting rifles, shotguns and pistols. I am more accurate with a 30.06 or a .270 than i was with any military style weapon.
I am personally a big fan of the 1911 style pistols. In fact all i own are 1911's and 1 H&K USP 9MM for handguns. But here in Texas you can wear your pistol in plain site with no permits. Just can't enter banks, federal buildings or places that serve alchohol with a pistol on you.
Single stack is the way to go for me. I feel most confident that i can place more of my 7 rounds into the same 3" plate than most people can with their 15 round mags when the heat is on or their being shot at!

I have owned several Kimbers with many thousands of rounds fired and have never had one problem. In fact i have alot of faith in their guns. Were those guns "skeletonized" and "lightened" to the max?
And back to my comments about military weapons, I have always been more comfortable with my hunting rifles. But i did shoot "HawkEye" in basic and always shot 40 out of 40 through out my Army career. I think i shot 39 out of 40 once but i was having a bad day...lol.
LITTLE JONNY STRIKES AGAIN
The teacher asked the class to use the word 'fascinate' in a sentence.
Molly put up her hand and said, 'My family went to my granddad's farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.
The teacher said, 'That was good, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate, not fascinating'.
Sally raised her hand. She said, 'My family went to see Rock City and I was 'fascinated.'
The teacher said, 'Well, That was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word fascinate.'
Little Jonny raised his hand. The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Jonny before.
She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word 'fascinate', so she called on him.
Jonny said, 'My aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her **** are so big she can only fasten eight.
The teacher sat down and cried.

Yeah I did play with a few other weapons but the old bolt gun always felt the best. Though I did use a M21 from time to time but only for urban work but when things really counted it was always the M40 and yeah I brough some of those and some AP rounds home myself.......

I'm comfortable with it. I love it. Best iron sights on the planet. I can throw it to my shoulder and hit 20 head sized targets in about 20 seconds at about 300 yards.
All depends on your situation, but why head to the hills with one rifle when you can take 2 or 4 or 6?
Getting back to the subject at hand -Pistols. There are so many good, world class pistols on the market it's just a matter of personal preference. Nobody ever went wrong choosing a good 1911.
98 years old and still world class. What else can you say that about?

Hey KD, you need to call me soon so I know what to tell Brandon about sunday. He's got frame sliders on the new bike so he should be a bit better off this time :P
Come to think of it, I don't really know the plan... Seems I don't know anything anymore

Me too. I've got several MOA bolt guns, my heavy barrel 300 Win. Mag is sub MOA. But if I had to head for the hills with one rifle? My 3 MOA Springfield Armory M1-A.
