Well take a deep breath, let half of it out and then the real trick is to get into the "zone" and fire between heart beats..... squeeze your hand not just your trigger finger and lots of rounds down range..... then there is the affect of wind, humidity, temp and a few other things.

lol.. uh, yeah.. I dont think the distances I'm thinking about (pistol range) will be affected too much by those variables.. I just notice that I close my eyes, and pull the gun up and to the right.. I try to compensate by aiming low and the the left ( i know, bad practice.. )

Thanks.

Up and to the right is usally a sign that you are not pulling the trigger with your finger tip but with your whole finger. Just use the tip of your finger on the trigger, keep both eyes open and focus on the front sight.

Proper handgrip is THE key to shooting fast and accurately. With the proper handgrip... you can actually watch the front site post dance a bit. It pops up, ever so slightly... then settles back in the rear notch.

Trigger squeeze is also a skill. You press the trigger, not pull it. The next time you go shoot... try this. As you bring your weapon on target, line up a proper sight picture... then press the trigger. You should only be using the tip of your trigger finger. Once the gun goes "boom"... make sure your finger is held all the way to the rear. Do not move your trigger finger until after your sights are back on target.

Now... slowly... SLOWLY ease the trigger forward... you will feel it "reset". At that point, when the sights are lined up... press it rearward again. "Boom"... rinse and repeat.

This is called "Shooting from the reset."

You can practice this dry... by getting a sight picture... on an UNLOADED pistol. Press the trigger, hold it to the rear, cycle the slide, come BACK on target, reset the trigger and press it again.

Very valuable skill. One you need to master with at LEAST conscious competency. When you can move into the UNCONSCIOUS competency of this skill... you will be on your way.

What do you mean you need help learning to shoot? It's a gun, you point it at the middle of the thing you want to hit... you hit the middle. What more is there to it?

I put about 15k rounds thru my first pistol at the range in the first year I owned it.

My uncle gave me some tips on how to shoot. He was a sniper for the Phillipine secret service thingie-ma-bobber.

Of course, the only time we go shooting is in the winter in Pennsylvania. I think my hands are shaking from the cold too much to be accurate.

.... but he's still scary good even though he's "retired"
