guess what....
1 week home and the wife crashed the car. A 16 year old girl lost control and came into my wifes lane. The girl was driving a 1995 volvo, the wife in an 06 hyundia sante fe. Hit the girl broad side and cut the car in half, the front half ended up 6 feet from the road, back end 50 feet away in the trees. Both people walked away.

That's a good question, all of a sudden crash ratings are important to me. I'm am VERY happy with the way the Hynduai came out, total loss for sure but all the safety features worked as advertised. The firewall came inside but everything else was ok. Air bag deployed, steering column collapsed, all that good stuff.
The other car wasn't that lucky, but seatbelts saved everybody.

We (wifey and I) were considering the XC90, but the build-quality has been suspect. A friend of mine just picked up an XC90 for his wife, and he says the quality has come up a lot. She's not into huge SUVs, though. That ruled out my choices - Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia.
We settled on an RX for the build quality, resale value, and relative safety. She wanted it for the heated and memory seats.
Our other choices were the Highlander (new this year), Rav4, 4Runner, and CRV.
What can I say? I guess she's used to small things.
