IMO most regulatory fixes are for problems stemming from Gov't and business bedding down together. We're big boys and girls and we can take care of ourselves, so leave us the **** alone. Maybe a step in the right direction here. http://www.fff.org/

Would you lend YOUR money to people who couldn't produce a friggin' social security number and prove they were even legally living in the country? I don't think so.

So how did this happen?

The "regulators", people like Chris "friend of Angelo" Dodd and Barney Fwank, with the able assistance of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and La Raza, threatened the banks with charges of "redlining" and "racism" for refusing to grant loans to people who didn't have a pot to **** in and couldn't even document who the fug they actually were.

They sweetened the threats with a bribe;

They would backstop the bullshit loans with the tax dollars of you, your kids and your grandkids.

Instead of private business paying for they're own blunders or declaring bankruptcy, the government "regulates", the billionaires get bailed out, the political ***** "regulators" get their campaign cash, and YOU and I get to pay for all of it.
I know what you're saying about liberal politicians pushing financial institutions into sub-prime lending. This is definitely true and it it is definitely unacceptable. But it's nearly impossible anymore to separate gov't from big business with their firmly entrenched revolving door politics, campaign financing that controls the decision-making of "our" representatives, and the corrupted media skewing the news to fit their own purposes, i.e., magnifying, minimizing, and neglecting to suit.

i refuse to vote anymore, except possibly for Nader, Paul, or Kocinich types, as i believe that it is an insult to any rational being to help elect the pawns of special interests believing that they will somehow be representing the interests of the general population. I am rebelling against the blatant and pervasive corruption of our gov't and wasted, self-serving bureaucracies.

i refuse to be associated with the arrogant philosophy of internationalism characterized by occupation, imperialism, controlling, interfering, manipulation and a general attitude of supremacy based on assumption that others are to be used for our purposes, for our benefit and our prosperity. These contrived wars starting with Viet Nam are the worst, and intolerable, disgusting, and revolting to me.

This country had some spirit of revolution, some noble intentions, some stubborn idealists with caring hearts, but i don't see these much anymore, just a self-absorbed citizenry being lead around by their noses like cattle. There are some good people left no doubt, just much more scarce than a few generations ago.

WTF. I'm supposed to be happy today. It's my birthday. A young 67, and I'm gonna make snow chains for my XR. It's 14 degrees and me and my bike getting ready to break out of here. whooohooo! My B-Day gift to myself.Yeeehhhaaaa

Nath981,

67 years young, whew!

You are doing great! I have to be upright with handlebars, too uncomfortable at 36. I'm in shape too.

Congrats. I thought that you were a well mannered, thoughtful whipper snapper. Don't know why, just did.

(I've read your posts stating your years of driving, so I knew you weren't 20.)

Happy Birthday!

The fallacy of the argument that the free market caused this mess or needs more regulation... is that there was no free market to begin with.

In a free market, poor business practice is curbed by consequences, not government regulation and control. The government has been doing their best to remove consequences so we can continue riding the wave of debt all the way in until it crashes on the rocks.

thetophatflash is an unknown quantity at this point
note: the Federal Reserve is not run by the gov't and it's deliberations are done in secret by the same bankers and financiers that got the bailout money and are, again, enriched by public money being used to follow the same investment schemes as before. Doubtful that this would have happened if they had been required that a piece of property be tied to it's mortgage, no repackaging into some derivative fund and allowed to become an instrument of faith.

Loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires... how many of our "public servants" are anywhere near the poverty line, or even the median income line, or only a few multiples of it?

thanks for the grats and the compliments. Don't feel 67, don't think 67, don't act 67,don't hang out with 67 (ecxpt the wife), don't ride 67, and that's the important one.

Riding position: yeah, I really don't relax when riding. If I am not mentally focused, I don't ride. I disciplined myself to not think of anything but driving as an over the road trucker cause I didn't want to kill anyone. Upset about something with family, job or other, the truck didn't move until i could put it on the back burner. Same with bike. Now it's automatic.

Maybe this is why the seat or clip-ons don't bother me: Weight on the pegs and light on the hands. Pegs are rotated back and up even with top of swingarm. Steer with legs and core, cover front brake and clutch much of the time the freddie/nick trailbraking way. I religiously avoid straight roads, and this requires active riding, i.e., moving around on the bike. Riding this way is a workout in itself, but it's a fun workout.

Thanks for the birthday wish, nathan

Thank you sir. Philly, not too far. Short trip by car, but I take the scenic route on the bike and it takes the better part of a day. Spent a couple months helping my cousin fix up an apartment in south philly. Lives next to the park across from the stadium. Good people. good food. good times.

take care you old geezer

So, Obama's reaction on ABC News tonight to the Massachusetts Special Election to fill the empty Senatorial seat previously occupied by Ted Kennedy is, in so many words, "The results of the election are due to the people being pissed off about the Bush Administration".

Excuse me...He really said that. Sooooo, Massachusetts, a historically heavily Democratic state, elected a Republican Senator because they were pissed off at Bush, who happens to be a....Republican.

This guy is in meltdown, and he knows it. He's just hoping that there are enough lemmings out there that still believe his

The Mass election anomaly is a protest against Obama for not being who the naive electorate thought they were electing.

i just read through this whole long boring thread which has everyone giving their OPINION and some facts. Jus as a little heads up for the obama supporters. Specialists have stated that Obama's current spending streak in the very short amount of time he's spent in office is alot worse than the spendings of bush in his first term. his BILLIONS were accumulated over 8 years versus Obama's BILLIONS were accumulated in not even a full term. These decisions made by Obama are estimated to generate WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY higher spending than Bus accumulated in TWO terms. Stop blaming Bush and calling Obama a "savior". He is NOWHERE near a savior. Bush did all he could to try to be conservative where possible even with his idiotic decisions but Obama on the other hand seems to be making an effort to make his supporters look like dumbasses for electing him. Dont believe me? I dont know the exact number but BEFORE obama even got in office he spent a record HIGH on just his inaugguration and celebration or whatever. Look at the facts not what your opinion is.

How about we get rid of all the Washington crowd, banish them from politics, start over with only the bill of rights. One term and your out. "They" say you need multiple terms to be effective, but not if everyone only got one term. Also they should not stagger the terms. Lets see what we can clean up one term at a time.

Never vote for an incumbent.

and on top of that....never vote for someone just because of a race/sex/political party or because they will make history. and actually listen to the people and find the one that actually makes sense.

Daaaammmm! you read this whole long boring thread? you must be intellectually starving to have read all this bullshit, bored and possibly even boring .

Bush vs O'bummer: an electorate who puts Bush into office twice and then are duped again by a phoney like O'Bama is clearly asleep at the wheel. Too busy doing important **** like tweetin, twitterin, and textin to know what's happening right under their noses. But this is clearly only the tip of the iceburg when you consider that campaign finance, special interests, revolving door politics, and now the latest Supreme Court ruling allowing corporations to advertise for and against candidates, tells anyone with half a brain that the representative democracy we call America no longer serves the electorate. I guess it really doesn't matter anyway since no one will ever notice. Shhhhhhhhh, don't wake anyone up.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Bush was a failure after 8 years.....Obama is a failure after 1 year. and just think about it......the post above where he stated all the different trips and so on tht NObama used millions/billions of TAX PAYER money on. Its pathetic. and people still think he's a good president. thts extremely pathetic.

Oh, and thank you very much. Ive been a member for a few months i think its just tht i aint been on. lol. And i would have to say tht the superhawk is freakin awesome. ive rode many bikes since i started riding my superhawk and always went back to the superhawk.

In Ted Kennedy's hell he's sitting in a water-tight car submerged in a stream. No booze, nubile hotties, smokes, and no one to preach to. Oh, and there's the rotting corpse of a formerly young woman in the passenger seat.

The Anaheim Ducks laid a big egg in Washington D.C. last night, losing to the Capitols 5-1, and so did Barak Hussein Obama. The problem with the Ducks is that they didn't show up for the 3rd period. The problem with Obama is that he didn't show up for the last 12 months.

All he knows how to do is give speeches (411 in 12 months) that other people write for him (that includes taking his Presidential podium and teleprompters into a 6th grade classroom this week). He used the word "I" 96 times in a 70 minute speech. That doesn't even count how many times he said "me" and "my". The fact checks on his speech today turned up many false statements. He insulted the Supreme Court of the United States of America in front of the entire World.

This guy is an embarrassment to our country.
