I would only be using it for shot distances. Like to drop off my car at the beach pick up point for the long downhill mountain bike rides with the family that we do. I just pop the tow system inthe car. Then I can ride my hawk home (back up through the canyons of course) where we start our rides from. Or I would use it to take the bike to the shop or have my wife pick me up if the hawk dies on the road. Its light enough for here to pop in the car. The key is that you don't need a truck or have to store a trailer anywhere.

where am I gonna store the trailer after I pick it up? I don't have room for a trailer. I rent em from U-haul when I need to go long distance or tow more than one bike. This thing would just be for very short trips. Like I said to drop my car off at a mountain bike pick up spot or for emergency pickup. Again I have no place to put the tailer. And the foldable trailers I have seen are more expensive than any of these. Also found a few on ebay for less than $200. Nothing beats that price. There are some that look pretty crappy on ebay though.

Just scored an "undertaker" new off ebay for $160 shipped. Its being sold as "The Original Slick Wheelie" there but appears exactly the same. They still have one you can bid on if you are intrested...

The output shaft of the transmission would turn and all of the gears on the input and output shafts. They are constant-mesh gears, so they always turn at various speeds.
The transmission is lubricated through small orifices from a passage off the main bearing supply. If the engine is not running, there is no oil flow to the transmission bearings.
They are rolling element bearings and hold some oil by themselves, but I would not go far with it.

There was a road I used to ride that had a 5 mile down hill section of switch backs.I would turn the bike off and try to coast the whole way.Then I bought the hawk and I seem to remember a warning not to do such things.And I havn't.

I didn't even think about the oil issue, I was just thinking about how fast some things would be spinning in neutral, and I'm sure honda didn't design the bike to have the rear wheel spinning that fast in neutral. But with the oil issue, could be bad. I guess you could disconnect the chain, but there goes convenience.

I went big a couple years ago and bought a utility trailer off a friend and that thing is worth its weight in gold. Never half to rent a Uhaul, I have lots of friends when they are moving, and my bike doesn't have to fall over in the bed of my truck anymore. Definitely worth the minor storage issues having a full trailer.

Myself i just use my 5 x 12 open trailer or my 7 x 14 V-nose enclosed trailer.
My buddy has a single and dual Kendon and they are the best built trailer i have ever seen, just cost to friggin much.

I thought about getting a rail for my nissan altima but the tongue weight was 100lbs.
The trailer space is an issue. Any thought to other cheap options to haul the bike 300 miles or less. It would also be nice for my dirt bike. A single is fine no need for double rail

So I got the tilting/crank up tow rig and promptly used to go buy and tow an XR250 home. Scored the '99 XR250 for $1150 in great condition. The tow rig is super easy to use for one person. I towed (trailed?) the bike for about 10 miles. I stayed off the freeway. Bike was fine.

Those things are horrible, and they've been around forever...
I noticed with my YZ 250 I was going thru back tires faster than I normally would, and after about 3 months I realized that if I DIDNT REMOVE THE CHAIN I was doing my bike no good...

hey moto man, hate reviving an old thread and all, but wondering if you had a long term update of any sorts? im thinking about going this route because 1) i dont want to risk fragging a perfectly good 05 accord v6 auto tranny (honda ATs are supposedly horribly week, this one is $$$ in particular to repair) and 2) my other car, a civic 5MT, doesnt exactly have alot of grunt to tug any sort of weight. with one of these + the weight of my rc51, im looking like a little over 500lbs--the same as carrying 3/4 passengers...
however, main thing is that i'll be taking the chain off the rear sprocket while moving, possibly throwing on a spare wheel for the hauling process, and putting the regular wheel+rubber back on for the track.

I used it with Superhawk recently for a short 15 mile tow, and it worked fine but it makes you nervous as the bike counter-leans in corners. Also the cradle of the tow bar almost makes contact with front rotors when its all straped down. So I kept thinking about possible damage to the rotors while the bike is leaning in corners. But the rotors were fine. Also I stopped a few times to start the hawk up and make sure the gearbox got some fresh oil. I felt much better using it with the dirt bike.
Bottom line is it great for those that don't have the space for a trailer and need to pick up a bike right away if it's broken down or wrecked. Or to take it into a shop, from a buddys house, etc.
For track days I would go the rental route. an MC trailer from Uhaul is only ~$15 a day. And you would not be taking any meat off your track tires like you would with this thing. I use a Uhaul to take my dirt bikes out with my son.
