what kind of neighbourhoods do you people live in where you are always thinking about someone breaking in?
i have no problem with weapons, as i have two katanas hanging off my wall. (too much hassle to get a weapon in socialist Canada), but i never think of someone B&A and me reaching for the blades...

Why wait until someone breaks in or you feel like your life is in danger? We all lock our doors as a precaution, we install alarm systems in our homes as a precaution, whats wrong with ensuring you're covered if they fail? Let's face it, assuming you have time to call them, by the time the police get to you it's all over!! I would much rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
As for getting firearms in Canada, it is a hassle but can be done fairly easily. I have a large collection well into the double digits with a healthy mix of both rifle and handguns. Everything from M-4's & SKS's to Sig Sauers and Rugers.
