Wow, talk about your resurrected thread.
Since it's up, I might as well throw in my 2c
And I'll take the '05 if it has to tag in under 9k

For a while I have been considering selling the 1000RR and getting the Triumph 675. Now Ducati releases the 1098 and I've been drooling over that. I dunno if I could ever afford a $15k bike, but if I could, that would be the one.

Dream Bike

I'm not sure any of you would have ridden one, but a bike that is really amazing..slightly quicker than the VTR in 1/4...about same in top end..better roll on..way better gas mileage..more comfortable..handles way better than a a 727 lb. bike should..built like an anvil..300 miles between gas ups..carries two with hard luggage.. the envelope please... Honda ST 1300. Bought an 05..expensive in Canada...amazing bike...Traded it away..wife was struggling on it...don't ask why...Now I have a VTR and she has a 250 Ninja..he he ...If you can test ride one..try it...has a lot of charisma...

Talking Z1000

I'd go with the Z1000 (black and red)

I think the gsxr-750 would be about the perfect sport bike, assuming you needed something for track or sport riding - obviously not the best long hauler. Not sure if it has enough character to last 10 years though.

I agree with the several other opinions on the Triumph Speed Triple, a good blend of v-twin and inline four characteristics and an unforgettable exhaust note. Plus it just looks mean.

1098. Hands down. The 999 stacked headlight is cool, but not cool enough to pay more money for less HP. And by the time I can afford one, they'll have ironed out any new model gotchas.

My 0.02: the SV650 is a much, much better machine than the SV1000. Chassis handles a lot better, and at trackdays down here anyways they tend to be quicker around the track than the 1000s. (My 18-y-o son has an '03 650, so I get to see). Besides, the change out of the price limit will buy you a classic superbike to keep you occupied in the shed for the next 10 years, too.

I suspect that I am the only person here who knew the late John Britten. Lovely guy: I raced classics against him, and he welded up a broken oil tank on my race Norton once upon a time. When he died, the inspiration behind his little factory died and the guys just could not keep it going. But another of my friends owns one of the pink and blue machines, which gets paraded regularly.

Next Bike

You know another interesting bike though really silly in some places is that new Yamaha 1700..standard/naked bike..really rare but I seen them around up here..would not be fast really..torque..could have a great thumping exhaust...got that strange Euro-gobot type look...Love to ride one though..

The new Bimmer R1200S is sweet, as is the Triumph 675 (or Sprint ST), the Duc 1098 Let's see, there's also the Tuono (less the gawdy paint job), the MV Brutale 910, the Benelli TNT, a KTM SuperDuke 990 (or the RC8 if they ever release it), the new Suzuki Bandit 1250 looks interesting too, .....

So many options.....

+1 vote for the ZZR600..
touring+twisties+timeless (in my opinion) style, or at least 5 years worth anyway

tough call...

now that honda has spoiled my taste for their bikes....im not sure i would go back to one....if i did not have such a bad taste in from honda i would be happy to go to a new vfr or even give the rc51 a try now that i love the power of the vtwin...but the new duc 1098 sounds a little too tempting...

I'd be right down to my local Triumph dealer and ride off on my new speed triple for sure...One of my riding buddies just picked up an 06 and man that is one sweet ride...grab a hand full of throttle around 60 in 2nd and she comes right up...he has the all black one and it has that awesome stealth look...Speed Triple for sure:-D

After checking online for the prices on used 998's and 996's.. I'd just spend the money on the new 1098. The used ducs are still running 10K to 14K. considering you can get the new bike for 15K, seems the beter value

I'd have to opt for the Z1000. Upright sitting position of a Super Moto, the style of a street fighter, and the HP of a race replica. I'd get the flat blue color. So hot.

Other options being the R1200S, the 1098, or VFR.
