Honda Civic mileage question

I know this is a completely random question but it's late and I figured I'd post it and see if any of you know the answer. On an '04 civic is there any other way to verify the correct mileage (not counting the physical condition of the car or maintenance records, etc) if an instrument cluster has been swapped. For instance I was told some more modern cars like a friend's late model BMW have something in the transmission that also acts as an odometer to prevent fraud, but on our bikes for instance or some older cars you can just swap the cluster and there's no other way to be sure...

I don't know about the new tricks but here's an old skool way: look at the foot pedals (especially manual setups).

Yeah I meant more along the lines of something built into the car like I was saying in the BMW that shows the ACTUAL mileage, not just a way of saying "that's bullshit" based on the condition of the car. My friend had several cars and bikes he always "got creative with" with the mileage when he sold them, but when he got his last BMW around a '00 or '01 he said he could no longer mess with the odometer because there was something in the tranny like a secondary odometer that the dealer could check to verify actual mileage. Wondering if the civic had anything like that.

divingindaytona is an unknown quantity at this point
All you need to do is drive the car in reverse to get the mileage down. Just jack the car up and put a brick on the accellerator.

The girlfriend was hot. So was the sister.

No idea about the mileage. Have you tried calling a Honda dealership?

You can read the odometer off of the PCM using the diagnostic plug. The problem is you need software/hardware like "autotap" to do it. I do a lot of work on cars so I have this stuff, I've found most odometers differ from the computer by 5-10 miles.

Most decent sized auto repair shops should have this, the smaller places most of the time just have the code reader, which is just about useless. "autotap" is the shiznit.
