RC51 & CBR 929 Forks for sale
Hello all.
I am clearing out my garage of parts that are not going to be used for my winter project. I currently have a couple of forks up for auction on eBay that some of the members here may be interested in.

Both forks are straight with no leaks. Would be a good upgrade for riders with conventional forks on their ride.
I also will be posting up a CBR 929 front wheel, front rotors, and axle once I go over them and note the condition. These CBR parts are all off my personal ride and I have never have had any issues with them, so I will keep everyone posted.

That stuff looks great! I will be bidding on the RC stuff. Also a quick question about the 929 wheel, will it bolt up to the RC forks, and will there be any caliper/brake issues?

The 929 wheel will not mount right up without first replacing the bearings with bearings for a RC51. The outer diameter and depth of the bearings are the same for each, just the internal diameter is different due to the RC51 having a smaller axle. The caliper mounting points are the same between the two forks, just the distance from center of the axle differs. The CBR 929 has 330MM disks and the RC51 has 320MM disks.

I personally would go for the 929 forks with the Traxxion internals for less money. 929 and 954 stuff is more plentiful and usually less expensive. Configuring bars is the biggest hassle, but it's not too difficult to overcome.

Just a little more information about the forks and why they are for sale. I had been running the CBR forks with no problems what so ever. I am only switching to the RC51 forks (I had two, a SP1 set and a SP2 set, keeping the SP2 set ) as I am going to be using the 6 spoke wheels and I had access to some other RC51 parts. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was planning on sticking with the CBR forks and just swapping the bearings in order to use the 6 spoke wheels.
The CBR forks are cheaper because the RC51 forks that I have listed are practically brand new. Other than not being as spotless as the RC51 forks, the CBRs there is nothing wrong with them and with my wife saying that my project is too much in the red and I need to move it back towards the black, I am just looking to recover some money into my winter project slush fund.

The reason that I want the RC-51 stuff is that from what I have read the forks on the RC are the same length as the ones on the VTR. So you can mount the clipons above the triples like you can in the standard configuration. I want the 929/954 wheel due to the fact that it is three spoke like the VTR wheel.
If I was to go with the 929/954 forks from all of the stuff on the forums here the best clipons to go with are the heli-bars for a TL-1000R.
At this point I guess I could go either way. I do not have any of the parts for the swap. But, you are right the parts for the 929/954 are more plentiful. I guess I just want the best set-up without sacraficing any comfort (lower bars than stock) and getting the most performance for my efforts. Any guidance would be great.

I believe the TL helibars are the tallest of the available clipons, but I haven't used them so I'm not absolutely sure.
Here is a link to what I did, which is a variation of ideas I got from kai ju and superbling. You can search for threads detailing their mods. I fabricated spacers out of aluminum bar stock and mounted a tubular bar above the triple. This is a fair amount of work, but it's cheap and works without having to trim the fairing or lengthen any of the cables. The bar position ended up being a little better than stock--slightly higher with less pullback (I have switched from the handlebar shown in these pictures). Scroll down to find my posts with pictures. If this looks like too much work, freestyle ingenuity makes a tubular handlebar clamp for $100 that bolts onto a 929 or 954 top triple clamp and accounts for the gull wing shape of this particular triple clamp (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CBR-9...yphotohosting).

Just a quick question, would the handle bar mount and bar off of a Tuono work mounted to a RC-51 top triple?? I have looked at the bars on a bike on the web and it looks like it might be a viable option.

I don't know about the Tuono, but the RC top triple is flat so almost any handlebar mounts can easily be made to work simply by drilling holes in the clamp and bolting the mounts on. The gull wing shape of the 929/954 top triple is what makes it a PITA to mount regular old tubular handlebars.

Really... if you want to get tricky, you would get a set of RC51 forks and use the 929 / 954 triple clamp which would allow you to mount the clip-ons on top of the triple. You would only need to lower the front end / raise the fork tubes slightly to get enough meat on the tubes for the clip-ons. The fork tubes themselves are about an inch longer and the upper part of the triple on the CBR drops about .5 inch down. So you have 1.5 inches right from the start.

That was my original plan was to build a hybrid of sorts. Kind of the best of both worlds, great performance with good hand position.

What clip-ons were you using when you had the 929 forks on you Hawk?? Depending on which ones they were, how close was the riding position to the stock forks and bars.
BTW looks like someone already picked up your RC forks!! Nice

I was using a set of CBR 929 Heli bars. The setup was lower than stock, but I do not know by how much. I did not take any baseline measurements. It was comfortable, rode to bike week in New Hampshire every year with no problems (500 + mile round trip in a day). I guess it all depends on personal preference. I mean I used to ride around a Ducati 996.... want to talk about painful riding position??
