Here is another one I came across on the OZ forum, Australian SH forum, http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...5&form=KEYWORD the cost is approximately $38.00 US. I sent this info to Tweety to get his thoughts on it, but have not heard back. Its a 1/3 of the price for the speedo healer.

Sorry... Got sidetracked... It's ok to kick me in the butt once that happens...

That should work out just fine as a diy kit... But I'd rather have access to the pre-programmed pic circuit and then do a SMD version of it... That circuit board is ridiculously large in comparasion to what it needs to be... I could probably make it the size of a poststamp... and waterproof it...

Thanks , thats what I was looking for ...( cheaper options ) , although it does look huge ! But for the price I may have to consider it .

Yes it is very big - good for hamfisted amateurs doing their first electrical project! I didn't have to worry too much about that though, as there is plenty of room to box it and mount it on the side of the rear subframe, behind the rectifier/regulator.

I've got to agree with Tweety on this one. While it might work initially, the fact its not weatherproof or in some type of protective cover makes me think "pass" on that one. Also, don't forget about what vibration will do to it.

By the time you add in a sealed box with the mounting standoffs, etc, and figure out where you're going to fit it you'll have wasted a bunch of your time and more money. I'd say go with the speedo healer.

Yeah , I am still trying to decide . It's not so much the speedo being off that bugs me .( I usually have my GPS to check my speed) . It's the extra miles on the odometer that are getting counted due to gearing that I don't like . I will watch Ebay for a couple of weeks to see if a deal pops up for a speedo healer . If not ..I may have to grab this Big *** Box and try it out . If someone finds a deal on the speedo healer ...send it my way !

Revhead Would you be interested in sharing the schematics?

I could make a SMD version of it... If I use 1206 size components even an amateur should be able to solder them with time on his hands...

Yup... Now I had time too look it over as well...

It's all there except the software for the microchip... And that's the part needing thinking... And the microchip in a kit is copy protected...

So buying them and building them is a decent option... Altough I'd prefer an SMD option... sigh...

I ordered a kit and I can send you the chip if it will help to determine what the math and or logic is for the brain.

Unfortunately it won't help... It's copy protected... ie you cant read any info back from it... As for the logic chip in it self its a standard component... I have a few of the exact component lying around in my parts boxes...

And unlike cracking any other copy protection and such this is not a protection you can circumvent... Unless you grind down the plastic and read it back from the memory prom... and that's a longshot as you will likely damage it...

I could however do a SMD version of the circuit using that same chip... would still reduce it a lot... and make it easy to make waterproof...
