Talked to the seller and in all fairness, if I hadn't started working on it already he would have refunded the purchase price.
This is what I have. The picture of the fairing shows a flat black Sharkskinz lower. That much is true. The lower arrived today, painted in some sort of crappy textured black paint. On first inspection I noticed that I could see daylight through several little holes in the upper part of the fairing. I also noticed that the part had a terrible repair on the inside lower part which used non-structural matting. Further inspection revealed that the "paint" was bubbling up on the lower side because whoever had it mounted did not use any type of heat tape on it when it was mounted and the heat from the pipe bubbled it up. I need to do a coin tap test on it to check for voids. So much for "never installed". Looking at this thing closely I surmise that the holes in the upper left part of the fairing were caused by voids in the fiberglass resin that when whoever sanded the crap out of the left side exposed when they were making repairs. The left side is now so thin you can easily push it in with your finger. It is MUCH thinner than the right side.
Here's my plan. Reinforce left side upper with structural fiberglass matting and blend into lower part. Fill in all the little holes with resin. Smooth out and repair numerous gouges on and around the lower sides of the fairing, fill any voids with resin if found, sand all smooth and paint to match. Purchase mounting bracket from Sharkskinz.
I am sure the satisfaction of doing the job right will set in at some later date but for now ......what a pain the ***.

I just got this today and it definately has been mounted. Before I even started sanding it I could see where the paint was bubbling up on the bottom from where no one put heat tape on the inside of it to protect it from the pipe. There are numerous pin holes in the fiberglass on the left hand side where a previous repair has been made. I sanded the black paint off and I can see where filler has been used in several spots on the cowling. Did you buy this new? No mounting bracket?
I guess I will have to repair it but I would NEVER have sold this as "never installed". I expect to have 30 hours into this thing by the time it goes for paint.
End of PM.
Motormouth offered to refund but since I sanded it to uncover the extent of the damage he said it was "no good" to him now. Be careful when purchasing from him, he either lacks the experience to adequately describe his items for sale or just down right is pushing his crap off on other folks.
Laugh now motormouth, I don't appreciate your comments and good luck selling anything else here.

I assure you i can see just fine and this is the one and only negative transaction i have on here . This was a clear oversight on my part but RWhisen went right to work on the part before i even had a chance to reply to his complaint . I would have had no problem refunding $ and taking the part back but not when it has been altered , also you have no idea who i am and i bet you wouldnt call me a clown to my face so mind your own and quit rehashing on old news .
