1999 Black VTR1000 FS
1999 Black VTR1000F for sale.
Rides, runs & looks excellent
Original owner – Adult rider
135,000–ish KM (75k miles)
Racetech .8kg fork springs
Ohlins shock
Heli-Bars
SECDEM HP Windscreen
Custom made braided SS clutch & front brake lines. The fellow who made the lines did not recommend a braided line for the rear unless I was planning on taking it to the track. The bike has not seen the track. The rear brake line is stock.
Grand Touring USA hand grips
Grip heaters
Napoleon Barend mirrors
LP tank bra
Sargent World Sport Saddle
Exhaust headers have been ceramic coated (looks like brushed aluminum)
V&H S4 slipons
APE Manual Cam Chain tensioners (installed at around 20,000km)
NWS Black plastic hugger
Taillocker (provides enough underseat storage for a full rainsuit)
Ventura Sportrack & Grabrail
The carbs have been jetted (Factory Stage 1) and currently have the stock idle jet, mains are 180 fr and 182 rr, needle is Factory with the clip in the middle slot, mixture screws set at 2.75 turns out. I am running the stock air filter.
Hydraulic fluids have been replaced every other year, with the latest replacement done spring 2007. Rads flushed and fresh coolant installed last year. New HH sintered brake shoes were installed front & back spring 2007.
Valves were checked in the spring 2007. They are still within factory spec. They have never been shimmed.
PAIR system has been removed and discarded. I am still running the original regulator/rectifier and battery.
I run Valvoline dino oils exclusively....10W40 in spring & fall and 20W50 in the hot months. Oil is replaced every 3000km. Oil filter replaced every 3rd or 4th oil change.
I have the OEM windscreen, clipons, mirrors and seat. I have two sets of stock mufflers, one unmolested and one with the baffles removed. And I have a full set of V&H mid pipes and two extra V&H S4 slipons, one good, one with cosmetic damage. I have a factory shop manual. I have new OEM sprockets ready to go in the next time the chain is replaced. The current chain, a DID X-ring 530, has approximately 30,000km on it. Lubed every 500km, still in the green zone on the adjuster. Tires need to be replaced.
Now for the bad news. The bike was highsided in 2004. The crash was low speed and the damage was all cosmetic. There are a few scrapes on the RS engine case and the RS bar end weight. All dented/bent/broken bits were replaced/repaired and repainted to OEM Honda paint codes. Broken/bent stuff replaced included the gas tank, RS mirror, RS fairing, upper fairing stay. LS fairing and tail piece were repaired, Ricky Racer cowl has fresh clear coat.
There is more stuff that goes with the bike, but this'll do for starters.
The price? Firm at $3500USD. If the price goes down, some of the goodies come off.
Bike is located near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
My reason for selling? I retired in June 2007 and refocused my riding priorities from commuting to touring. I bought a Moto Guzzi EV for my tourer and can not afford to insure two bikes.

Your bike looks great and your mod list is my wish list -
but a suggestion. Sell off some of your goodies. The saddle, V&H slipons, Heli, hugger, grabrail & mirrors would probabbly fetch near $800. Then you still have a great bike with serious performance mods to sell at $2700 or so.
We all know the SHawk is capable of a lot of miles but law of supply and demand kicks in.
Good luck on the sale. It is obvious you put a lot of care and pride in your ride.

Mileage
The Guzzi I had before I bought the VTR had 240,000km on it.
Ran and looked better than new.
I take good care of my machines. In 40 years of riding I have never had to walk home because of a mechanical failure.

Mileage - again
Just to clarify the reasons for the 'high' mileage on the VTR.
I live 40 freeway miles from where I worked. The VTR was my main mode of transportation from mid-April to mid-October. Rain or shine. You do the math.
Then there were usually three or four road trips each year; Laconia, Parry Sound Sportbike Rally, a Guzzi Rally or two, etc.
Add to this my regular back road scratching....I live very close to the start of the (in)famous Calabogie Run....Eastern Ontario's version of Deals Gap. Most Sunday mornings you can find me at Munfords Cafe and Gas Bar in Calabogie drinking bad coffee, munching on Grannie's date squares and kicking tires with other early morning riders. Sometimes I hook up with another rider or two and disappear into the Lanark County Highlands for the day. There is some excellent riding in this part of the world.
I generally average between 15-20,000km per season.
Thanx to all for your comments on the VTR.
For all you parts vultures, I'll keep you in mind.....
Cheers!

It's actually part of the Ventura Rack System...called The Grab Rail.
When I want to go touring the Grab Rail can be easily removed (two thumb screws) and replaced with the Sport Rack. The sport rack will easily carry my camping gear. The rack is supposedly rated for up to 70lbs of cargo. I have carried two cases of Beer (24 cans * 2) and ice without issue.
When I get home, the rack is removed and replaced by the grab rail - about 30 seconds work.
Cheers!

PS The bike is still available. Somebody is going to get a gem...this thing has always been well maintained; it runs well, handles excellent, and looks and sounds wonderful.
