FZ1 mirrors mounted

So due to a small oops on my part, I found myself minus a left mirror.. Bobs Used Motorcycle Parts had two decent rights but no left mirrors for our bike available.

Knowing that FZ1 mirrors are a popular option for our bike, and given that they did have those in stock, I grabbed a set (new, $35+tax for both) and bolted them up.. I have not yet ridden with them, but they look decent.

phone pic, so low quality

I will report back once I have ridden it with these on.

Those actually flow pretty well with the touring windscreen. Get some more shots at different angles when you get a chance please.

I did this mod about 2 months ago, and it is a vast improvement, and they look good too.

Sure thing, might be a few days though. I honestly forgot where I put my camera. That is why I just snapped a quick pic on my phone.

Also is the plastic a matte finish? it looks like the stem is glossy and the mirror frame matte.

LoL, not yet. Work has been keeping me home till after dark lately, and by that time I am ready to just crash in front of the TV.. No worries, I found my camera (in the kitchen of course) and will take pics and have a ride report sometime this weekend.

I've had them on mine for 6 months. The view is fantastic. They look a little funny with the stock windscreen, but who cares.

The rubber boots on yours could use some conditioning to get them black again, they are dried out.

Ok, first two ride reports..

If you don't have access to some tools and aren't willing to mod these mirrors, do not get them. They are 100% useless in stock form, they have detents that make the mirrors stay too far in so that all you see is your chest.. And if you just push them forward to where they are useful and ride over 20mph on roads that are not made of glass they will go right back to their detents.

So what I did is drill out the rivet that holds it together and ground off the detents on the mount side of the mirror, then I put it back together with a bolt, lockwasher and some rubber where the detents were. Now I can put the mirrors where I want them and I have good visibility.

I didn't take any pics of the process but I can take some of the final result tomorrow.

Finally got around to uploading the pics. (ya, months late I know)

Here is the inner workings post mod:

I am actually thinking of going back to stock.. These don't quite look right and while they are further out I sit a bit too high to really like them.. I have to rotate them fully up to get any use out of them. I can see them working great for a shorter rider.

At least 2 inches, I really haven't measured them and don't have the stock ones around to compare to.

Well I did do the headlight relays.. And I helped Yruyur do a bixenon HID projector install on his bike, I have considered doing that myself, but haven't really seen the need. His light is more white, but seems just as bright when we are out away from the city. (edit: those pics in his thread are from before my adding the relays to my headlight)

I do still need a JDM shock though...

lol, I ninja edited.. if you look at the pics in that thread you will see how much his BMW E46 projector improved over my stock wiring.. I was amazed how much the relay addition to my system helped.

I need a new pic with my relays added
