I have those mirrors in black on my cafe. Well, I have one left. The other one fell off. The mounting system sucks ******** and didn't work well for me. I tightened the crap out of them too. The remaining one is modified to use the bar insert but rotates sometimes.

Yeah, I noticed the chinsy mounts. Since you for sure have had problems I may just go ahead and weld in threaded ends on the bar to fix. So did they rattle loose or could you never get them tight enough?

Never could get it tight enough. The mechanism inside spread to a point on the inside of the bar and it wiggled around no matter the torque on the bolt. If there were a flat surface to grip inside the bar it would be better.

since your printing your own gauge label, why not start the red line at the 12k mark ? thats where i'll have it

That would be fun to see...Lol. I don't even know if this thing has a limiter. Is that possible with only points firing it? Probably no limiter right?



Need to print a final face for the gauge install the face re attach the needle seal up the bottom buttons and then ready to roll. A one glance for all your info.

Yesterday the upholstery guy we use for the body shop stuff came by and talked to me about the seat. So long story short he is going to make the cover and add a little bit of foam to it in a few spots front and rear. He really wanted to shape the seat a lot more but I want to keep it flat so that when transitioning back and forth through turns you can easily move still. He is going to use a material that grips pretty well too. With as narrow as the seat is and how light the bike is there will be a lot of movement when riden hard. Pics to come when done.

So the gauge is complete. Aside from a small bit of sealing to be done, maybe some sanding and paint it looks really good and I think will function super.

Are you planning any upgrades on brakes and suspension too?

Well as soon as the build is done and after I have ridden the bike some I will start to consider upgrades. Things like possibly fork emulators, electronic ignition, maybe a 650 cam since those work. Without changing the forks out, which I don't want to do, all I can do with the brakes is put a decent pad in there. Probably not a whole lot of options for upgrades since the tech is really old. Part of my goal with the bike was to keep it as vintage as possible. That is why for the most part everything that has been done either utilized the original part or was built from scratch. I have been looking for nice rear shocks if anyone might be able to help me with that quest. I want to find some with adjustable rebound and dampening not just pre load, but have been unsuccessful. I will probably put new springs in the forks too.

On a serious note, now that I laid the whole vintage bit on you all I still am torn between carbon fiber or stainless for the can. Please help me decide.

Stainless Fiber for sure.. errm what?

If you want it to look "authentic" go stainless. If you don't care about that, go with whichever you like better. (I would recommend the 2nd route, whichever you like the look of better.. it is your bike, unless you are just planning to sell it.. then stay authentic)

You don't think carbon is too "state of the art" for the bike?

Because I like the way the carbon looks too but that is my only concern.

Personally I like the snake skin look of the carbon fiber and I think it will tie into the black accents on the bike. Does it effect the overall sound by going carbon?

nope, well not much, that has more to do with the packing and size of the inner perforated tube.
