The Official SHOG Rally '08 Thread

SuperHawk Owners Group Rally (if you didn't know what "SHOG" stood for)
Date: July 10-14, 2008
Location: Deal's Gap, NC in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mtns
Lodging: Deal's Gap Campground

Also, do I need to have another batch of shirts made or is everyone good? Shirts come out to be about $25 each. I'm only doing confirmed orders this time since I got stuck with $100 in shirts from the last order.

I just sent a buddy of mine a PM, he is an officer with a local group that goes over 2-3 times a year, he is in charge of finding places for them to stay..They normally stay at treetops, and one of the other houses they have there...I will let you know when he gets back to me... Edited to keep thread from getting too long...

http://www.tallasseerentalcabins.com/

http://www.twowheelinn.com/

http://www.ironhorsenc.com/

And I stayed one night last time at the CROT Hotel, it was really nice inside...Had bunk beds, and a twin, so 3 could sleep comfy per room..had fridge, and microwave, and plenty of room for gear...Would be a good launch point for any route...seems like it was $49 per night..so $20 per person probably with tax...couldn't find a link...

This is the place we stayed at when we went 2 years ago. The cabin was like brand new and really nice. I don't remember what we spent, but it was pretty comfortable (for most of us anyway) for 6 of us. If I remember, it was pretty reasonable. I will say it was a little bit of a ride to the gap though. It was pretty nice though, cause we did some great riding to/from the gap. I'll have to see if I can make it with you guys. I am also going to Indy in Sept for the MotoGP.

My plan at this point is to bring the motorhome... so Iron Horse is my vote... but if everybody ends up somewere else I could just bring the trailer like last year.

Greg, put me down for 2 shirts just like last year.

As I stated in the other thread, I'm planning on joining you with another bud. Its been 20 years since I was down there and camped out on a farm/ranch with the permission of the owner. Its too far for me to rough it at my age but a clean, dry and quiet bed and a decent shower is all I need.

KC, are you volunteering to make reservations?

Don, sorry bud. Setup charges on the shirts prohibit me from making just two.

Come on, guys. Let's get organized here! I'm starting another thread with just roll call. If you're going for sure then get your name on the list so we can figure out how many we have.

Okay, but I'll tell you guys, my job has me working 12 hour days for this great country. I just don't have the time or energy to try to coordinate the Rally during the day. I don't have internet at work, either. We need to make reservations soon and somebody needs to step up to the plate to at least make some phone calls and find out what's available.

ok, I don't mind making some calls..like I have anything better to do..LOL...

and get rates etc....Then once we figure out who is staying where, then each person can call in to pay there deposit/or there part in full...That way no one person is stuck with the bill...

Fair?

and it this point I can't even say for 100% that I will be there...Depends on which job I take...LOL

Greg,

My best friend owns a t-shirt screenprinting business. The quality and graphics on his shirts are awesome, and they are 100% done by him. we would probably be looking at 10-12$ per shirt instead of 25...

an example of an actual shirt:

and one of my good friends in Athens is a tattoo artist, so if you need art, I can swing that cause he owes me.

crazy idea, but for those coming from the midwest, we could possible load up in my bus. Last year I hauled four bikes in the back with two large couches, tv, fridge, PSII, etc etc.

I just called Two Wheel Inn.
I have stayed there before. Nice place and nice folks.
They currently have 16 rooms available for Thurs check in and check out Sun morn.
Cost is $70 plus tax (total = $77) for two people in a room.

I just called Deal's Gap and talked with my friend Ben who kinda' runs the show there.
The Deal's Gap Hotel is undergoing a major remodeling. I was there weekend before last and all the rooms are stripped down to the bare floor and walls.
Rooms should be a lot nicer this year.
Currently, the weekend we are looking at is wide open.
Ben has penciled in us as a possible group that might want a block of rooms.
We discussed and that "pencil-in" will hold it for us for a few weeks to allow us to determine who, how many, if any, are interested.

Room rate for this year will be $60/room.
Ben said he'd do me a favor and gives us rooms at last year's rate of $50/room.
There is a $10 charge/additional person.
I am not certain but I think last seasons rooms could accommodate 3 people pretty easy.

So, the bottom line on rooms at Deal's Gap Hotel:
If you like and want the whole "Tail of the Dragon" experience, then plan to stay there.
If you prefer other roads and/or less of the whole TOD thing, then other places might suit you better.
IF you want to plan to stay at Deal's Gap hotel, here is what Ben and I agreeded to.

Post here indicating your desire.
I will complie a list of all who want rooms.
I will coordinate with Ben and provide him the list AND CONTACT INFO.
Each person will then be responsible for paying individually for their room.
No group pay, or single check, etc. I've been involved in those before and they turn in to a major CF.

As a side note, we might be able to work something out with Ben and the restaurant to "host" a dinner for us maybe Saturday night. Just a thought......

Please note - I am offering to help, but in no way want to encourage others to do what they think might not be what they really want to do.
I like hanging out there.
Other's might not.
Either way, I'll do what I can to help.

HEY GREG - It's your thing really so chime in please. If you have druthers, then that's cool by me.

WE HAVE 3 WEEKS OR SO TO COME UP WITH A NUMBER AND LIST. AFTER THAT THE ROOMS OPEN BACK UP TO WHOEVER.

As far as the shirt, I will again this year submit the following as a candidate for our T-shirt

Brian is da man...but um..what does that shirt design have to do with motorcycles??

I sayed there last year for night, it was a nice room, and yes each room will accomodate three...

So Brian, are you saying it is $50 and that is for the room and 3, or $50 plus the other two people pay $10 each? for a total of $70? Which I still think is a fair price...and the fact that most people will have different amounts of time they will be able to stay, that could work out very good...

ie, 3 people staying for 2 nights, put them in a room together...6 people stay 3 nights, well, you get the picture...And you have everything there you need, except cell service and internet..<---Had to throw that in for Cleve...LOL

First.. You know how I know you're gay, KC.. That shirt has everything to do with motorcycles.. We ride to woo women.. It may be just ONE woman now.. but it still all comes down to that.

Second. I'm in for the TOD experience.

Third. The internet thing is Ghop's thing.. I never complained about it..

a) as I understand it $50/night for 1 person in a room, $60 for two in a room, and $70 for 3 in a room.

b) trailer parking is typically not a problem. I am assuming you mean a bike trailer or similar utility type trailer. A traverl trailer might be a problem.

c) I do not think there is a set or required number of nights. We'll just try and get a list together of how many folks/how many rooms and then we can assess who wants to room with who, and then take it from there.

I would really like to attend this, however being that i'm moving to Kentucky some time in March, or early April, I just don't have the ability to commit at this point... I'll have a truck/trailer to get there if not ride there depending on how far from Bowling Green, Ky area... But being as i'm moving, i still could not honestly say where i'll even be working, and what kind of schedule...

So If at all possible... I'd like to say i'm a maybe for this ride... And if once we get closer, if somebody has a room that doesn't have 3 people already, i would gladly chip in on the room cost... Or if it really comes down to it... I could always camp in the truck.... I've only done that a half gazillion times...
