View Full Version : World Superbike this weekend VTRsurfer 02-26-2009, 07:09 PM WSB from Phillips Island, Australia this weekend. So far Ben Spies is top qualifier on his Yamaha. Should be fun to watch.:D captainchaos 02-26-2009, 07:13 PM Awesome! WSBK should be an awesome series again. I'd love to see Spies kick some ass. lynchie 02-26-2009, 07:20 PM I cant Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VTRsurfer 02-26-2009, 07:21 PM Troy Bayliss' shoes are big ones to fill, but Ben might just step up to the challenge. It's just too bad he's not on a V twin. lynchie 02-26-2009, 07:22 PM You know whats odd?... the people that dont even know what World Superbike and Motogp are....cagers jbaxx 02-26-2009, 08:01 PM Ben Spies top qualifier? He's never even ridden at Phillip Island until a couple weeks ago! Holy crap they better look out for Elbowz this year! autoteach 02-26-2009, 08:09 PM WSB? is that txting for wasabi? I didn't realize that you just had to drop the vowels. VTRsurfer 02-26-2009, 08:16 PM What's texting? I'm 62 years old and don't know of this stuff. marmaladedad 02-26-2009, 10:47 PM I'm still a Nitro Nori fan...but it'll be good to see Mat Mladin jr get some REAL competition. VTRsurfer 02-27-2009, 09:31 AM Smrz is now top qualifier on a 1098R, with Spies 8th. It will also be interesting to see how Corser and Xaus do on the new Beemer. autoteach, Smrz is not a text abbreviation. DogStar 02-27-2009, 10:53 AM Haga is second in practice so that means he has at least another second a lap during the race. If Haga is in the top 10 at any race he is my pick. Unless Biaggi takes him out or he pulls a Nori and throws it down the track which is about 50-50 :) I really hope Haga can put it together this season it is definitely his turn. ff 02-27-2009, 01:44 PM you guys know what channel/ time it's playing on? i checked speed's schedule for this weekend and didn't see it. VTRsurfer 02-27-2009, 03:20 PM you guys know what channel/ time it's playing on? i checked speed's schedule for this weekend and didn't see it. Oh-oh, it's usually Speed. I'll try to do some research. Moto Man 02-27-2009, 03:23 PM Race 1 is on Speed Channel Sunday 3/1 1PM PST / 4PM EST Its labeled "FIM World Superbike" "Phillip Island-Race1" http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/filter/date/2009-3-1 also found the listings for the both races all week... http://www.speedtv.com/programs/fim-world-superbike/ Have to wait till Tuesday for race 2 :( VTRsurfer 02-27-2009, 03:41 PM That's great, thanks. Almost always a delay for Race Two. You won't see me around on any MC-related forums until Wednesday - don't want the ending spoiled!! DogStar 02-27-2009, 11:17 PM Start looking for the torrents on Sunday, they usually show up early afternoon or so. I hate waiting until tuesday... HRCA#1 02-28-2009, 07:07 AM In case you didn't know Ben Spies took Super Pole for this weekend in OZ. Looks like this cross plane cranked Yamaha will be strong and probably the bike to beat here in AMA/DMG whatever. LineArrayNut 02-28-2009, 08:55 AM I wish the towtruck network gave a damn and we could let them know that 12 hours of nascrap a day is not equal to an hour of superpole coverage or live/same day coverage of all of the races (not condensed). But no amount of vocal bitching seems to make a difference. I can't even find a feed online to catch it... rant/off RCVTR 02-28-2009, 12:21 PM Crazy! What a mix of top ten places! Can you say Max Biaggi? On a brand new, V4 Aprilia? TODDSPEED 02-28-2009, 02:05 PM Sounds like alot of guys are Spies fans, does anyone else think he's kinda arrogant and full of himself? Personally I'm looking forward to seeing 1 the BMWs 2 the new Aprilla 3 Haga and most of all the hands down best competion in road racing. killer5280 02-28-2009, 02:37 PM Sounds like alot of guys are Spies fans, does anyone else think he's kinda arrogant and full of himself? I don't know him personally or anything, but no. I just think he's good. VTRsurfer 02-28-2009, 06:52 PM I don't know him personally or anything, but no. I just think he's good. :iagree: In AMA I was always rooting for ANYBODY to beat Mladin, and Spies was about the only one who ever could. I think Mladin is arrogant. Bottom line is...I just want to see good racing. And yes, Haga on the Duc will be tough to beat. Also, how can we help but to root for the V twin, Bayliss was a class act. jbaxx 02-28-2009, 07:51 PM Sounds like alot of guys are Spies fans, does anyone else think he's kinda arrogant and full of himself? Personally I'm looking forward to seeing 1 the BMWs 2 the new Aprilla 3 Haga and most of all the hands down best competion in road racing. From what I can tell, Spies is anything but arrogant. The guy can ride. FWIW I'm looking forward to seeing Haga, the Bimmers and the V-4 Aprillia too. jbaxx 02-28-2009, 07:56 PM Scoreboard World Superbike Phillip Island Superpole 1. Glad to finally have an American back in WSB. Colin Edwards really put on a show on the RC51 a few years back. Should be fun watching Spies draggin' elbows on world-class tracks. And the new Aprilia qualifying 2nd... on a totally new machine, that's amazing! Should be a fun year to watch. smokinjoe73 03-01-2009, 02:37 AM You guys know that the rest of the planet looks down on American racers as inferior right? They all thought that Nicky's title was based on luck that everyone else had a bad year! It is great to see Ben doing so well so soon. MotoGP is a bore-fest anyway. WSB is so much more real world. Besides, our beloved bike is an offspring of honda's world superbike effort to derail the ducati train. HRCA#1 03-01-2009, 07:05 AM In case you haven't heard Spies ran off track in race 1 and finished 16th, however the boy won race 2 narrowly beating Haga and Biaggi. Don't know the details yet. Now that's a damn fine show! trinc 03-01-2009, 10:03 AM WoW, what a great finish... tim PJay 03-01-2009, 12:46 PM You guys know that the rest of the planet looks down on American racers as inferior right? They all thought that Nicky's title was based on luck that everyone else had a bad year! Well, it's not at all that they're inferior; it's just that as a group they're nothing startling. Great effort by Spies in the second WSB race yesterday. His start lap was better than anyone else's, by miles, and he fought off the challenges very well. killer5280 03-01-2009, 02:04 PM You guys know that the rest of the planet looks down on American racers as inferior right? Besides, our beloved bike is an offspring of honda's world superbike effort to derail the ducati train. MotoGP was the most exciting racing on the planet until they ruined it by going to the current 800cc formula. The last couple of years have seen WSB return to exciting racing after a few years in the doldrums. This year promises to be no exception. RK1 03-01-2009, 11:55 PM Reading opinion from the rest of the English speaking world, I don't get the impression that anybody thinks American riders are inferior. It's just that after Americans dominating for a decade and a half from the late seventies on, riders from the rest of the First World have caught up. Good on them. Makes for good racing. kwad9 03-02-2009, 03:46 AM You can watch the race for free here : http://www.worldsbk.com/pubb_EN/ (sbk TV), enjoy ;) smokinjoe73 03-02-2009, 10:50 AM Hey kwad9, I can only see highlights to watch there, I know I am retarded but how do I watch the whole race; I hate waiting til tuesday! trinc 03-02-2009, 10:57 AM i like race II better ! :) tim PJay 03-02-2009, 11:22 AM Reading opinion from the rest of the English speaking world, I don't get the impression that anybody thinks American riders are inferior. Yeah, exactly. The more variety the better: Kenan Sofoglu from Turkey in 600 SuperSport for example (where he is already back to doing better than he did in WSB). I can't wait until some of the talented riders from SE Asia get a push to try the bigger classes. And just imagine how it will be if the motorcycle industry in China really gets into this stuff. kwad9 03-02-2009, 12:09 PM Hey kwad9, I can only see highlights to watch there, I know I am retarded but how do I watch the whole race; I hate waiting til tuesday! click on the "550k" just under the "full race" logo ... or try these link http://www.worldsbk.com/pubb_EN/popup.php?id=306  Maybe there is some restriction for american user... but here in france I can watch all the races on demand and even live... for free :D falcondrvr 03-02-2009, 12:14 PM  click on the "550k" just under the "full race" logo ... or try these link http://www.worldsbk.com/pubb_EN/popup.php?id=306  Maybe there is some restriction for american user... but here in france I can watch all the races on demand and even live... for free :D yeah we're screwed here in the US because of Speed TV who broadcasts the races on a delay. The SBK website won't let us view the races until some time after they've aired on Speed. So basically motorcycle racing fans in the US get fucked left and right... Shitty coverage and you can't even watch the coverage that's offered from other sources. I heard u can trick the SBK site by using a proxy server though. kwad9 03-02-2009, 12:29 PM yeah we're screwed here in the US because of Speed TV who broadcasts the races on a delay. SOMEONE on this forum has to know how to get that race! Thank God I was called into work tonight or my wife would've had a rough night listening to my ranting!!(ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOOSE AROUND HERE). As it stands all I can do is come on this forum and TYPE ALOT OF ALL CAPS TO SHOW MY ANGER!!!! falcondrvr 03-02-2009, 01:07 PM i saw on another forum that you could use a proxy server that's located in, let's say Europe to view the races on SBK. I can't figure that sheet out... VTRsurfer 03-05-2009, 09:07 PM I watched both races on Tuesday, BOTH were great. Spies ran off the track TWICE in race 1 and still came in 16th. Haga ran a great race in both. And in race 2, how can anyone on the forum not like the fact that an American, a V twin, and a Honda were all on the podium, in that order. jbaxx 03-07-2009, 06:18 PM Way to go Ben!! Throwin' down in OZ!! Nanotech 03-07-2009, 07:43 PM Great racing I thought, very enjoyable. I can't wait for the rest of the season, Haga and Spies will be duking out often I bet. Haga can be near unstoppable sometimes, and already he's making the transition to Duc nicely based on his performance. A little more seat time and I'll bet he'll be on top often. The beemer did OK the first race...I forget how it did the second. I can watch it all on SBK's sight now, so those of you who missed it/couldn't stream it before should be OK now. It gave me the error at first saying I wasn't authorized, so I searched wsbk in yahoo, followed the link, clicked on the 550K stream under full race, and it worked great. Both races were watchable on the site. |
