Hi,
I'm new to the site and new to biking. I am looking at a 1999 Superhawk with 15,000mi on it. Are there any common problems I should look for (oil leaks, electrical, steering,,)?

Thanks,
Kevin

Besides the typical/normal areas you should look at on used bikes the SuperHawk has two specific things: Regulator/rectifier and if the motor makes abnormal "rattling" style noises from the cam chain (cam chain tensioners going out) when rev'ed.

Other than that, the bike is really reliable and fuss free but we like to mess with it (mod) anyways.

If its had regular oil changes, its barely broken in. I have 21,000 miles on my '05 that is 3 years old this month. And hey, its a Honda.

Mine has 44,000 miles and still has great compression so no worries about the miles. I hope you get the hawk. Very few people regret getting a Superhawk.

i know i dont regret getting mine. i absolutely love it. i agree with superbling though, those are seemingly two of the biggest problems with superhawks. easy fixes though.

Today's test ride report:

MAN, what a dream!. This thing is more than I hoped for. Very forgiving, predictable, and fast. I love it. Now I'll have to give the wife foot rubs for the next few dz to talk her into it..

Wish me luck,
kev

Best of luck. Use some nice smelling lotion to mess with her senses even more!

Good luck! I hope it works out for you. I don't think you'll regret it.

Lower your offer if the front forks are stock.

Having had my 2001 since Feb08, I have to say that it's alot of fun and very reliable.

I'm on the watch for VFR bars / used Heli-bars ...maybe Gen mar risers?

I picked up my 2004 six months ago with 2400 miles on her. I love this bike and plan to keep it for as long as possible!!
